Conversion of biomass-derived feedstocks into value-added chemicals over single-atom catalysts

Sudipta De et al.

Summary: This review summarizes recent studies on the applications of single-atom catalysts (SACs) in the selective transformation of biomass-derived feedstocks into value-added products. SACs, with their selective nature, high atom efficiency, and tunable active sites, have shown great potential in achieving high selectivity towards complex molecules at a reduced cost.

Understanding trends in the mercury oxidation activity of single-atom catalysts

Weijie Yang et al.

Summary: Mercury pollutants emitted from coal-fired power plants are a global environmental problem. This study focused on finding an effective catalyst for the catalytic oxidation of elemental mercury (Hg-0) to remove it from coal-fired power plants. Ten 3d transition metal single-atom catalysts (SACs) were designed and analyzed, and Fe-1-N-4-C was found to have the highest catalytic activity. A volcano-shaped microkinetic model and descriptor-based design guideline were also derived to understand the activity trends and guide the design of catalysts for this environmentally important reaction.

Design of 3d transition metal anchored B5N3 catalysts for electrochemical CO2 reduction to methane

Yuefeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study provides a design guideline for selectively reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) to methane (CH4) and identifies single-atom nickel anchored on a B5N3 monolayer as a potential catalyst. The theoretical calculations show that this designed catalyst possesses good stability, electrical conductivity, high theoretical CH4 selectivity, and low limiting-potential for CO2 electrocatalytic reduction.

Experimental and density functional theory study of the influence mechanism of oxygen on NO heterogeneous reduction in deep air-staged combustion

Ping Chen et al.

Summary: The study reveals an optimal oxygen concentration for NOx formation in deep air-staged combustion, with oxygen changing the reaction pathway of char-NO and influencing N-2 desorption and CO/CO2 formation. Theoretical calculations and experimental results confirm the importance of oxygen in these reactions.

A small change in the local atomic environment for a big improvement in single-atom catalysis

Hao Li et al.

Summary: The study investigates the electrocatalytic performance of Ru single-atom catalysts supported on composition-adjustable inert Cu oxide substrates, demonstrating superior catalytic activity and selectivity. New descriptors are proposed to help quickly screen SACs for alkaline NRR, showing that slight changes in the local SA atomic environment lead to significant enhancements in catalytic performance.

Catalytic oxidation mechanism of NO to HNO3 on TiO2 (101) and (001) surfaces and the influence factors on NO removal: A DFT study

Zehua Wang et al.

Summary: Theoretical study on the selective catalytic oxidation of NO to form HNO3 on different TiO2 surfaces found that HNO3 is easier to generate on certain surfaces, with the addition of extra NO molecules affecting the reaction pathway and product formation. This research provides deeper insight into the mechanism of NO oxidation and its potential atmospheric significance.
