Feasibility of Implementing Long-Acting Injectable Antiretroviral Therapy to Treat HIV: A Survey of Health Providers from the 13 Countries Participating in the ATLAS-2M Trial

Summary: Long-acting injectable antiretroviral therapy was found to be feasible and providers from Africa had higher odds of perceived overall feasibility of monthly LA ART compared to providers from other regions. Providers reporting a greater number of benefits for patients had higher odds of perceived feasibility of monthly LA ART, while providers reporting a greater number of patient barriers had lower odds of perceived feasibility. Further research is needed to address barriers, facilitators, and strategies for optimizing the introduction of LA ART outside of clinical trials.

Simulating HIV Breakthrough and Resistance Development During Variable Adherence to Antiretroviral Treatment

Summary: The in vitro experiments showed that the BIC/FTC/TAF triple therapy regimen provided high potency, long half-lives, and antiviral synergy, protecting patients from viral rebound and resistance development after short-term lapses in drug adherence. The study also demonstrated that the DTG/3TC combination prevented most breakthrough at clinically relevant concentrations but showed more breakthroughs as drug concentrations decreased, leading to resistance emergence in some cases.
