Energy loss in low energy nuclear recoils in dark matter detector materials

Sebastian Sassi et al.

Summary: Recent progress in phonon-mediated detectors with eV-scale nuclear recoil energy sensitivity requires understanding the effect of crystalline defects on the expected energy spectrum. Molecular dynamics simulations are performed to determine the amount of energy stored in lattice defects. The results show that this energy cannot be observed in phonon measurements, which affects the observed energy spectrum compared to the true recoil energy spectrum.

Revisiting the dark matter interpretation of excess rates in semiconductors

Peter Abbamonte et al.

Summary: In light of recent results from low-threshold dark matter detectors, the possibility of a common dark matter origin for multiple excesses across numerous direct detection experiments is revisited. The interpretation of the excess rates in semiconductor detectors is explored, and a compatible fit for the observed energy spectra in both experiments is demonstrated. However, the possibility of common origin by dark matter scattering via nuclear recoils is strongly disfavored, and other possibilities are also ruled out based on known particle fluxes.

Large mass single electron resolution detector for dark matter and neutrino elastic interaction searches

V Iyer et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel 100 g phonon-mediated Si detector with high single electron resolution and low leakage current. By changing the interface architecture and increasing the phonon absorption efficiency of the sensors, the detector can operate at a low energy threshold, which is beneficial for dark matter and CE nu NS searches. Signals in the detector show a linear increase in phonon signal amplification with improved signal to noise ratio at bias voltages up to 240 V.

Light Dark Matter Search with a High-Resolution Athermal Phonon Detector Operated above Ground

I Alkhatib et al.

Summary: In this research, limits on spin-independent dark matter-nucleon interactions were presented using a 10.6 g Si athermal phonon detector with precise energy resolution. The study demonstrated the scientific potential of detectors with eV-scale energy resolution for future dark matter searches.
