Universal bounds on cooling power and cooling efficiency for autonomous absorption refrigerators

Sandipan Mohanta et al.

Summary: We demonstrate a hierarchy in the relative fluctuation of currents for cold, hot, and work terminals in steady-state autonomous absorption refrigerators. This hierarchy leads to a bound on cooling efficiency that is tighter than previously obtained bounds.

Quantum-parametric-oscillator heat engines in squeezed thermal baths: Foundational theoretical issues

Onat Arisoy et al.

Summary: This paper examines foundational issues of a specific type of quantum engines that consist of a single quantum parametric oscillator. The system operates in an Otto cycle with two phases: an isentropic phase where the oscillator's frequency changes and is detached from any bath, and an isothermal phase where the system interacts with one or two squeezed baths of different temperatures. The study utilizes the Hu-Paz-Zhang (HPZ) master equation for quantum Brownian motion. The aim is to establish a theoretical foundation for quantum engines of continuous variables and explore a wider range of parameter spaces.

Convex resource theory of non-Markovianity

Samyadeb Bhattacharya et al.

Summary: In this research, a convex resource theory of non-Markovianity inducing information backflow has been established under the constraint of small time intervals within the temporal evolution. Free operations and a generalized bona-fide measure of non-Markovian information backflow have been identified, and the proposed resource quantifier is lower bounded by the optimization free Rivas-Huelga-Plenio (RHP) measure of non-Markovianity. The study further defines the robustness of non-Markovianity and shows its direct link with the RHP measure of non-Markovianity, providing a physical interpretation of the RHP measure and relating the robustness of non-Markovianity with the quantum capacity of dephasing channels.

Nearly Markovian maps and entanglement-based bound on corresponding non-Markovianity

Sreetama Das et al.

Summary: A set of dynamical maps of open quantum systems called 'epsilon-Markovian' maps is identified, which may violate Born approximation to some extent in a higher dimensional system-environment Hilbert space. The 'epsilon-nonmarkovianity' of a general dynamical map is characterized by the minimum distance of that map from the set of epsilon-Markovian maps, with an analytical inequality derived to give a bound on the epsilon-nonmarkovianity. Numerical investigations are conducted on distant based measures of non-Markovianity for classes of amplitude damping and phase damping channels, revealing insights into the behavior of these systems.

Convex geometry of Markovian Lindblad dynamics and witnessing non-Markovianity

Bihalan Bhattacharya et al.

Summary: This paper develops a theory of linear witnesses for detecting non-Markovianity based on the geometric structure of Choi states, and constructs linear witnesses to separate non-Markovian Choi states from Markovian ones. By utilizing different witnesses and projective measurements, various qubit channels can be effectively detected and distinguished for non-Markovian behavior.

Darlington pair of quantum thermal transistors

Ravi T. Wijesekara et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed quantum thermal transistors that control the thermal conductivity between two terminals based on an input signal on a third terminal. By creating the thermal equivalent of an electronic Darlington pair, they investigate how multiple thermal transistors can be interconnected to build useful composite devices. Through numerical simulations, they demonstrate that the thermal Darlington pair outperforms an equivalent single thermal transistor in terms of thermal amplification, sensitivity, and thermodynamic efficiency.

Quantum thermal transistors: Operation characteristics in steady state versus transient regimes

Riddhi Ghosh et al.

Summary: We find that transient quantum thermal transistors can have different amplification effects and operating regions for certain initial states. The last type of transient thermal transistor is particularly interesting as it can also operate in the region where the transistor effect is lost.

Thermal rectification through a nonlinear quantum resonator

Bibek Bhandari et al.

Summary: A comprehensive study of thermal rectification in a nonlinear resonator is presented, with a focus on maximizing rectification and exploring various methods beyond weak-coupling regime. Strong coupling regime allows for violation of bounds derived in weak-coupling regime, providing clear signatures of high-order coherent processes in thermal rectification.
