Cd2+ removal from synthetic waters by ZnCl2-activated carbon

Chandu S. Madankar et al.

Summary: The low-cost industrial biomass, pine-fruit residue (PFR), was used to prepare porous activated carbon through ZnCl2-impregnation and physical activation. The ZnCl2-activated carbon (ZnAC) showed efficient removal of Cd2+ from synthetic waters following Langmuir isotherm. The optimal Cd2+ sorption conditions were observed at pH 7.0 and temperature 323 K, with adsorption kinetics described by Pseudo-second-order kinetic model.

The Effect of Modifications of Activated Carbon Materials on the Capacitive Performance: Surface, Microstructure, and Wettability

Kouao Dujearic-Stephane et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the efforts made by different research groups to enhance the performance of electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) through modification of activated carbon structures. Various porous textures, surface chemistry, and microstructure of activated carbon materials can be synthesized using different techniques, and their surface chemistry can be modified in order to improve EDLCs' performance. Introduction of heteroatoms and compositing activated carbon with metal oxide materials or conducting polymers provide additional contributions to the double-layer capacitance, leading to high capacitance. The review also discusses key parameters such as cell capacitance, operating voltage, equivalent series resistance, power density, and energy density, and how these are affected by modifying the activated carbon framework.
