Anodic Oxidation of Industrial Winery Wastewater Using Different Anodes

Yeney Lauzurique et al.

Summary: Winery wastewater, the largest waste stream in the wine industry, contains high amounts of organic matter that vary with time and wine production levels. Anodic oxidation using a boron-doped diamond electrode achieved 85% mineralization of the wastewater, while the mixed metal oxides electrode only achieved 2.52% degradation.

Electrochemical mineralization of abattoir wastewater with continuous system

D. Ozturk et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of various operational parameters on the removal of pollutants from cattle-abattoir wastewater using a continuous electrochemical oxidation system. The optimal operating conditions for energy efficiency were determined to be a NaCl concentration of 1 M and an applied current density of 4.73 mA/cm(2). Under these conditions, removal efficiencies for various pollutants were found to be high, with the energy consumption calculated as 2.42 kWh/kg COD and 19.43 kWh/m(3). The approximate cost to treat 1 m(3) wastewater was calculated as $6.43. The kinetic behavior followed a pseudo-first-order model.

Phosphorous removal from anaerobically digested municipal sludge centrate by an electrocoagulation reactor using metal (Al, Fe and Al-Fe) scrap anodes

Mehmet Kobya et al.

Summary: Phosphates, major contributors to eutrophication and algal blooms, were successfully removed from sludge centrate effluent using packed-bed electrocoagulation with iron, aluminum, and aluminum-iron hybrid scrap anodes. High phosphorus removal efficiencies were achieved under optimized operating conditions, with corresponding costs calculated for each type of scrap metal. Metal-phosphorus precipitation and adsorption were identified as key mechanisms for phosphorus removal in this study.
