Macro-Meso-Microporous Metal-Organic Frameworks: Template-Assisted Spray Drying Synthesis and Enhanced Catalysis

Ni Wang et al.

Summary: Hierarchically porous metal-organic frameworks (HP-MOFs) with macro-meso-micropores were efficiently constructed using a template-assisted spray drying followed by etching process. The method allows for easy adjustment of macropore and mesopore structures by altering the size and proportion of the template. The catalytic properties of HP-ZIF-8 in Knoevenagel reaction were significantly improved compared to microsized ZIF-8.

Seignette salt induced defects in Zr-MOFs for boosted Pb(II) adsorption: universal strategy and mechanism insight

Yu-Hang Li et al.

Summary: A green and facile approach was proposed to modulate NH2-UiO-66 using seignette salt, resulting in the formation of SS-NH2-UiO-66 with hierarchical pores and abundant vacancies. The enhanced sorption performance for lead (Pb(II)) was attributed to the defect sites, which was confirmed by XAS and XPS analysis. DFT calculations revealed that the hierarchical pores and vacancies facilitated the mobility of Pb(II) towards the adsorption active sites.

Molecular Surgery at Microporous MOF for Mesopore Generation and Renovation

Mohamed K. Albolkany et al.

Summary: Hierarchically porous MOFs (HP-MOFs) exhibit advantageous synergism of micro- and mesopore structures, but face challenges in synthetic control at a molecular scale. This study presents a novel approach for reversible and controllable mesopore generation and renovation in microporous MOFs like HKUST-1, achieved through gas-phase etching to create uniform mesopores without altering crystal size or morphology. The generated mesopores can be further modified using MOF precursor solutions, demonstrating a powerful protocol for precisely tailoring and tuning the properties of MOF materials at a molecular scale.
