Exploration of the role of disorder and the behaviour of the surface state in the three-dimensional topological insulator-Bi2Se3

Amit Jash et al.

Summary: This article provides an overview of recent experimental investigations on the high conducting topologically protected surface state properties of a 3D topological insulator, Bi2Se3. The study explores the effects of non-magnetic defects on the topological conducting surface states and reveals temperature-dependent surface to bulk conductivity transformations as well as the emergence of inhomogeneous phase separation in the material.

Existence of electron-hole charge puddles and the observation of strong universal conductance fluctuations in a 3D topological insulator

Debarghya Mallick et al.

Summary: In a study of phase-coherent transport in a device made by exfoliating bulk insulating topological insulator single crystal, it was found that quantum phenomena were caused by surface Dirac electrons, leading to slow dephasing of electronic wavefunction. Universal conductance fluctuations showed surprisingly high amplitude and persistence, with significant impacts from device shape and Aharonov-Bohm loops.

Summary: The growth and thermoelectric properties of tin and selenium co-doped single crystal bismuth telluride were investigated, revealing an increase in power factor and a decrease in electrical resistivity. Analysis of crystal structure and dopants effect showed promising results for potential thermoelectric applications.

Quasiparticle interference in doped topological insulators with nematic superconductivity

D. A. Khokhlov et al.

Summary: In this study, theoretical investigation of quasiparticle interference in superconducting topological insulators reveals that interference patterns exhibit nematic behavior for small bias voltages and are sensitive to the orientation of the nematicity. The violation of rotational symmetry is observed in both coordinate and momentum spaces, with interference patterns resembling those of the normal state when the bias voltage is comparable to the order parameter value. The results are compared with existing experimental data.

Nonlocal Measurement as a Probe of the Spin Hall Effect in Topological Insulators

Gregory M. Stephen et al.

Summary: Topological insulators (TIs) show great promise for alternative computing device designs, particularly in spintronic devices where efficient conversion between spin and charge signals is crucial. Measurements of the spin Hall effect (SHE) on the topological insulator Bi2Te2.5Se0.5 show high spin Hall angles and spin lifetimes, allowing for quick diagnostics of spin properties without the need for multilevel devices.

Summary: The study demonstrates that using SrTiO3 substrate in topological insulator nanoribbons enables tunability of Fermi energy and an ambipolar field effect, while maintaining high mobility of Dirac electrons for transportation, providing an ideal platform to take advantage of the properties of topological surface states.

Hexagonal warping induced nonlinear planar Nernst effect in nonmagnetic topological insulators

Xiao-Qin Yu et al.

Summary: We theoretically propose a new effect, the nonlinear planar Nernst effect (NPNE), in nonmagnetic topological insulator Bi2Te3, where the Nernst current scales quadratically with temperature gradient, linearly with magnetic field, and exhibits a cosine dependence on the orientation of the magnetic field. The NPNE has a quantum origin due to the conversion of a nonlinear transverse spin current to a charge current, resulting from a combined action of hexagonal warping effect, spin-momentum locking, and time-reversal symmetry breaking induced by the magnetic field.
