With the innovation of DNA nanotechnology, the rational design of DNA hydrogels has allowed for the development of DNA hydrogel biosensors with stimuli-responsiveness, tunable physicochemical properties, and integrated functionality. This has the potential to greatly impact biomedical applications.
With the innovation of DNA nanotechnology, DNA hydrogels can be rationally designed with stimuli-responsiveness, tunable physicochemical properties, and integrated functionality, which hold great promise for widespread biomedical applications. Recently, Xiong and colleagues reported a wireless and battery-free DNA hydrogel biosensor that responded selectively to deoxyribonucleases associated with pathogenic bacteria. The confluence of biosensor and wireless technology have provided smartphone-based detection of infection in acute wounds through tunable dielectric changes of hydrogel in that study and may facilitate the improved management of chronic wounds and beyond in the near future.
