Magnetic Mesoporous Silica Nanorods Loaded with Ceria and Functionalized with Fluorophores for Multimodal Imaging

Jan Grzelak et al.

Summary: Multifunctional magnetic nanocomposites based on mesoporous silica have a wide range of potential applications in various fields. By controlling the structure, nanoparticles with different shapes can be prepared to respond to external magnetic fields. The application of these nanoparticles in biomedicine is particularly promising, but research on nanorods is currently limited.

Recent trends of mesoporous silica-based nanoplatforms for nanodynamic therapies

Qingqing Xu et al.

Summary: Nanodynamic therapies using nanosensitizers triggered by various activators or reactions in tumor microenvironment have emerged as attractive strategies for treating deep-seated tumors. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) and MSNs-based hybrid nanoparticles are promising candidates for nanodynamic therapies due to their large surface area, high pore volume, biosafety, and easy surface modification. This review summarizes the antitumor mechanisms and latest progress in the construction, modification, and application of MSNs-based nanodynamic therapies, including photodynamic therapy, chemodynamic therapy, sonodynamic therapy, thermodynamic therapy, radiodynamic therapy, and electrodynamic therapy. The challenges and prospects for clinical applications of MSNs-based ROS-activated cancer treatments are also discussed.

Emerging therapeutic approaches for the treatment of NAFLD and type 2 diabetes mellitus

Daniel Ferguson et al.

Summary: NAFLD is the most prevalent liver disease worldwide, with no approved pharmacological therapies available. The spectrum of severity ranges from steatosis to NASH, which is linked to increased risks of liver cancer and cirrhosis. Therefore, a holistic approach and ongoing therapeutic options are necessary to address the global health burden of these diseases.
