Ultrahard magnetism from mixed-valence dilanthanide complexes with metal-metal bonding

Colin A. Gould et al.

Summary: Mixed-valence dilanthanide complexes with a singly occupied lanthanide-lanthanide sigma-bonding orbital were reported, showing outstanding magnetic properties due to the strong alignment of the sigma-bonding and f electrons on both lanthanides. The combination of a well-isolated high-spin ground state and large magnetic anisotropy in (Cp-iPr5)(2)Dy2I3 results in an enormous coercive magnetic field at high temperatures.

Recent advances in 3d-4f magnetic complexes with several types of non-carboxylate organic ligands

Hui-Sheng Wang et al.

Summary: Since 1993, single molecule magnets (SMMs) have been widely studied for potential applications in information storage, quantum computing, and spintronics. Recent research on 3d-4f complexes with non-carboxylate ligands has shown that the metal core topologies and magnetic couplings can be regulated, leading to improved SMM performance. Future research could focus on further enhancing the SMM behavior of these complexes.

Molecular assemblies from linear-shaped Ln4 clusters to Ln8 clusters using different β-diketonates: disparate magnetocaloric effects and single-molecule magnet behaviours

Wen-Min Wang et al.

Summary: A series of lanthanide-based clusters with different nuclearities were assembled using a polydentate Schiff-base ligand and beta-diketone salts, revealing the important role of beta-diketones in affecting the cluster structures. Antiferromagnetic interactions and significant cryogenic magnetic refrigeration properties were observed, with certain clusters exhibiting single-molecule magnet behavior.

Origin of the anomalously low Raman exponents in single molecule magnets

Lei Gu et al.

Summary: This study systematically examines the origins of different abnormalities in the Raman exponents of single molecular magnetic relaxation, clarifying past misunderstandings and the appropriateness of fitting procedures. It is found that exponential laws raised by optical phonons can yield spurious power laws with low exponents, indicating long-standing misunderstandings of the origins of low Raman exponents. The presence of these exponents suggests the importance of the local dynamical environment for magnetic relaxation in this regime, resulting from spin-lattice coupling with optical modes.
