Self-cleaning photocatalytic MXene composite membrane for synergistically enhanced water treatment: Oil/water separation and dyes removal

Qingquan Lin et al.

Summary: A novel two-dimensional Bi2O2CO3@MXene photocatalytic composite membrane was reported for water treatment, showing excellent multifunctional abilities including high water flux, high rejection ratio for oil/water emulsions, and efficient dye removal. This composite membrane also maintained stable permeability and selectivity after five consecutive cycles with visible light irradiation. Mechanisms for the improvement of photocatalytic activity and membrane permeability were revealed through density functional theory (DFT) calculation and Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis.

Preparation of Ni@UiO-66 incorporated polyethersulfone (PES) membrane by magnetic field assisted strategy to improve permeability and photocatalytic self-cleaning ability

Jiahao Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a PES-Ni@UiO-66 membrane was prepared by coating UiO-66 with magnetic Ni and incorporating it into the PES membrane matrix. The distribution of magnetic Ni@UiO-66 was controlled by an external magnetic field, and the hydrophilic Ni@UiO-66 was pulled onto the membrane surface, resulting in a membrane with higher hydrophilicity and superior water permeability. Moreover, the membrane exhibited excellent photocatalytic self-cleaning ability and antifouling performance due to the photocatalytic activity of the exposed Ni@UiO-66 on the membrane surface.

A Lamellar MXene (Ti3C2Tx)/PSS Composite Membrane for Fast and Selective Lithium-Ion Separation

Zong Lu et al.

Summary: The study involves the creation of a 2D laminar membrane with Li+ selective transport channels by stacking MXene nanosheets with poly(sodium 4-styrene sulfonate) (PSS) containing active sulfonate sites. This membrane shows excellent Li+ selectivity in ionic mixture solutions and high Li+ permeation rate. The selective and rapid transport of partially dehydrated Li+ within subnanochannels is attributed to precisely controlled interlayer spacing and weaker ion-terminal interaction.
