A perturbative expansion scheme for supermembrane and matrix theory

Olaf Lechtenfeld et al.

Summary: In this paper, we reconsider the supermembrane in a Minkowski background as a one-dimensional gauge theory of area preserving diffeomorphisms (APDs) in the light-cone gauge. By introducing a Nicolai map for the matrix model, we are able to perturbatively linearize the supersymmetric theory for a quantum mechanical path-integral treatment up to O(g(4)). The convergence properties of the map show improvements compared to traditional perturbative expansions, with well-defined results in the N -> infinity limit.

Gravity in d=2+ε dimensions and realizations of the diffeomorphisms group

Riccardo Martini et al.

Summary: This study explores two separate realizations of the diffeomorphism group in metric gravity, showing classical equivalence but quantum distinction. By renormalizing them in specific dimensions, a new dimensional continuation procedure for metric theories is developed, shedding light on potential ultraviolet completions of quantum gravity candidates. The results hint at the presence of a conformal window in dimensions extending beyond four.

Beta functions for the duality-invariant sigma model

Roberto Bonezzi et al.

Summary: The O(d, d) invariant worldsheet theory is used to compute beta functions and Weyl anomaly for bosonic string theory with d abelian isometries at one-loop. The vanishing of the Weyl anomaly coefficients is shown to imply the equations of motion of the Maharana-Schwarz action. An introduction to necessary techniques, including beta functions, the Weyl anomaly for two-dimensional sigma models, and the background field method, is provided to set the stage for future work on generalizations to higher loops and alpha' corrections.

Quantum corrections to generic branes: DBI, NLSM, and more

Garrett Goon et al.

Summary: The study investigates quantum corrections to hypersurfaces of dimension d + 1 > 2 embedded in generic higher-dimensional spacetimes, with methods valid for arbitrary co-dimension and arbitrary bulk metric. The one-loop results bring together the leading corrections of various theories prominent in modern amplitude literature.
