CSiGaAl2-/0 and CGeGaAl2-/0 having planar tetracoordinate carbon atoms in their global minimum energy structures

Prasenjit Das et al.

Summary: Density functional theory (DFT) is used to explore the structure, stability, and bonding in systems with planar tetracoordinate carbon. The study reveals the stable planar form in both neutral and mono-anionic systems, with strong electron donation from ligand atoms to the carbon atom.

Summary: A theoretical connection has been established between molecules containing planar tetracoordinate carbon atoms and a molecule that exists in the interstellar medium, providing evidence for the existence of ptC species. The reaction pathways connecting the reactants and products have been confirmed, and isomer 13 is considered a suitable candidate for further studies.

Inorganic Ferrocene Analogue [Fe(P4)2]2-

Zi-Chuan Wang et al.

Summary: A facile one-step method for the synthesis of the homoleptic iron complex [Fe(P-4)(2)](2-) is reported, using the Zintl-phase-type precursor KP dissolved in ethylenediamine. P-31 NMR analysis shows that P-4(2-) is generated only in the presence of 2,2,2-crypt. The yield of [Fe(P-4)(2)](2-) is determined by the amounts of cation-sequestering agents, the type of iron precursor, and their consuming ratio.

Pentacoordinate Carbon Atoms in a Ferrocene Dication Derivative-[Fe(Si2-η5-C5H2)2]2+

Shilpa Shajan et al.

Summary: Theoretical predictions show that there are tetracoordinate carbon atoms in a ferrocene dication derivative, which become pentacoordinate carbon atoms upon complexation. Calculation results indicate that these compounds are energetically stable and molecular dynamics simulations confirm their kinetic stability.

Kinetic Stability of Si2C5H2 Isomer with a Planar Tetracoordinate Carbon Atom

Krishnan Thirumoorthy et al.

Summary: The dissociation pathways of Si2C5H2 molecule with a planar tetracoordinate carbon atom have been investigated theoretically, revealing different products, transition states, and an intermediate. The molecule 1 is found to be kinetically stable but remains elusive in laboratory synthesis. Energetic and spectroscopic parameters have been documented for potential identification by molecular spectroscopists.

Trapping an unusual pentacoordinate carbon atom in a neutral trialuminum complex

Nery Villegas-Escobar et al.

Summary: A neutral trialuminum complex has been found to incorporate a pentacoordinate carbon structure, with the hypercoordinate carbon atom being stabilized by the rigid electron-deficient Al-3 core, resulting in the shortest Al-C distance reported for such a Al-3-(mu(3)-CH2) unit.

CAl4Mg0/-: Global Minima with a Planar Tetracoordinate Carbon Atom

Nisha Job et al.

Summary: Isomers of CAl4Mg and CAl4Mg- have been theoretically characterized for the first time, with the ptC isomer being the global minimum due to increased ionic radii of magnesium. The neutral molecule follows the 18 valence electron rule, while the anion breaks the rule with 19 valence electrons and a wider range of electron affinities. The global minima exhibit pi/sigma double aromaticity and were confirmed to be kinetically stable through molecular dynamics simulations.
