A numerical investigation on the hybrid spur gears: Stress and dynamic analysis

Tufan G. Yilmaz et al.

Summary: This study numerically examines the effect of rim thickness of hybrid gears on various factors such as root stress, joint stress, tooth stiffness, natural frequency, and dynamic behavior. It is found that hybrid gears have the potential to reduce the mass of gear transmission systems without negatively impacting root stress and dynamic factors if appropriate design parameters are selected. Rim thickness is identified as a critical parameter for hybrid gears.

Effects of asymmetric tooth profile on single-tooth stiffness of polymer gears

Celalettin Yuce et al.

Summary: Due to the development of polymer materials and additive manufacturing technologies, gear wheels made of polymer materials are widely used in various industries. Determining the dynamic behavior and tooth stiffness of polymer gears has become significant, and this study measured the single-tooth stiffness of polymer gears with symmetrical and asymmetrical profiles experimentally. The experimental results were compared with a finite element model and showed good correlation.

Comparison and Verification of Dynamic Simulations and Experiments for a Modified Spur Gear Pair

Zhi-Gen Wang et al.

Summary: This study conducted static and dynamic analyses on a spur gear pair with linear tip relief and longitudinal crowning, and compared the analysis results with dynamic experiments. A mathematical model and a finite element analysis program were developed to calculate the contact stress, contact patterns, and mesh stiffness of the gear pair. The dynamic analysis predicted the dynamic transmission error (DTE) at different speeds and loads. The experimental DTE was compared with the simulated DTE to verify the prediction of the spur gear pair's vibration performance under different rotational conditions.

Effects of rim thickness and drive side pressure angle on gear tooth root stress and fatigue crack propagation life

Oguz Dogan et al.

Summary: Gears play a crucial role in power transmission systems, but are susceptible to high loads and impact forces, leading to surface cracks. By studying different rim thicknesses and pressure angles, the effects on fatigue crack propagation life and root stress were explored, resulting in a significant decrease in maximum stress values and a substantial increase in fatigue propagation life.
