Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescent Dendrimers that Underpin High-Efficiency Host-Free Solution-Processed Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

Dianming Sun et al.

Summary: This work presents a solution to the challenge of developing high-performance solution-processed OLEDs by using highly efficient TADF dendrimers as emitters. By incorporating meta- and para-connected donor dendrons about a central triazine acceptor, the conflicting requirements of achieving a small Delta E-ST and a large oscillator strength are resolved. The solution-processed OLEDs exhibit excellent external quantum efficiency, current efficiency, and power efficiency, making them the most efficient host-free solution-processed OLEDs reported to date. Further optimization of the charge balance within the devices leads to improved efficiency rolloff at higher luminance.

Designing Stable Deep-Blue Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Emitters through Controlling the Intrinsic Stability of Triplet Excitons

Hosuk Kang et al.

Summary: Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) is a promising method for efficient organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). However, the operational stability of blue-light TADF emitters is a major drawback. In this study, the position of the triplet exciton is found to be crucial for enhancing operational stability. Repositioning the triplet exciton away from the weakest C-N bond results in a more stable OLED with increased device lifetime.

Regiochemistry of Donor Dendrons Controls the Performance of Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence Dendrimer Emitters for High Efficiency Solution-Processed Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

Dianming Sun et al.

Summary: The potential of dendrimers with thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) as emitters in OLEDs has not been fully realized, partly due to a lack of understanding of the structure-property relationship in dendrimers. This study used absorption and solvatochromic photoluminescence studies to probe the excited electronic states in dendrimers with different connecting modes, finding superior performance in meta-linked dendrimers. Comparative solid-state photoluminescence measurements and quantum chemical studies revealed the impact of substitution mode on TADF properties and the RISC mechanism, with the regiochemistry of donor dendrons playing a key role in enhancing RISC.

Properties of Dual Emissive Dendrimers Based on ThermallyActivated Delayed Fluorescence Dendrons and a Phosphorescent Ir(ppy)3 Core

Akash Thamarappalli et al.

Summary: Dual emission light-emitting dendrimers with phosphorescent and TADF-based emissive mechanisms were prepared. The dendrimers showed solvatochromism and the TADF-based dendrons acted as an energy pool for emission from the phosphorescent core. The dendrimers exhibited balanced hole and electron mobilities and good electroluminescent efficiency in organic light-emitting diodes.
