Asymmetric Co-unit Inclusion in Statistical Copolyesters

Mareen Schaefer et al.

Summary: The biodegradation of isodimorphic random butanediol-succinate/adipate copolymers can be influenced by changes in their semicrystalline morphology. Proton time-domain NMR and wide-angle X-ray scattering were used to characterize the copolymers and analyze the inclusion of minority comonomers in the crystalline structure. The study found that in PBA-rich copolymers, BS units are incorporated into the BA crystalline structure, while in PBS-rich crystals, BA units are excluded from the bulk crystal but accumulate at the crystallite surface.

Ion Correlations and Their Impact on Transport in Polymer-Based Electrolytes

Kara D. Fong et al.

Summary: The development of next-generation polymer-based electrolytes for energy storage applications can benefit from a deeper understanding of transport phenomena using the Onsager transport equations. This framework provides clear physical interpretation of transport coefficients and can be easily computed from molecular simulations. Through case studies, it is shown how this framework can clarify nonintuitive phenomena and inform design rules for improved systems.

X-ray study of Poly(vinyl Alcohol)-Iodine complex prepared from the dilute iodine solution as a hint to know the inner structure of polarizer

Kohji Tashiro et al.

Summary: The study reveals that PVA forms different iodine complexes in solutions with varying concentrations, with a unique structure identified as form IV. Through X-ray diffraction, resonance Raman data, and theoretical calculations, the specific structure of form IV was determined, and transformation mechanisms for various complexes were proposed. Additionally, the similarity between the X-ray diffraction pattern of form IV and a commercial polarizer suggests insights into the inner structure of the polarizer.

Network structure of swollen iodine-doped poly(vinyl alcohol) amorphous domain as characterized by low field NMR

Yahui Li et al.

Summary: The network structure in the amorphous domain of swollen iodine-doped PVA was systematically investigated to reveal the formation mechanism of PVA-iodine complexes. The introduction of iodine ions was found to affect chain mobility, accelerating the complexation process. The study provides insights into the formation pathway for PVA-iodine complexes.
