Towards modulating the colour hues of isoindigo-based electrochromic polymers through variation of thiophene-based donor groups

Ming Hui Chua et al.

Summary: Conjugated polymers containing isoindigo electron acceptor groups have shown potential for electrochromic applications. By synthesizing a series of isoindigo-based conjugated polymers with different donor units, researchers have studied their electrochromic properties. The colors of the polymers in both neutral and oxidized states can be tuned through variation of the donor groups. Thieno[3,2-b]thiophene as a donor unit exhibits the highest coloration efficiency among all reported isoindigo-based electrochromic polymers. The structure-property relationships of these polymers have been investigated, providing valuable insights for the development of high-performance electrochromic polymers based on isoindigo acceptor groups.

D-A-D Compounds Combining Dithienopyrrole Donors and Acceptors of Increasing Electron-Withdrawing Capability: Synthesis, Spectroscopy, Electropolymerization, and Electrochromism

Renata Rybakiewicz-Sekita et al.

Summary: This study synthesized five D-pi-A-pi-D compounds with different electron acceptors (TD, BTD, DPP, TZ, and NDI). By adjusting the solvent polarity, DTP-TD emitted yellow light, while DTP-BTD and DTP-DPP emitted near-infrared light. The electron affinities strongly depended on the nature of the acceptor, while the ionization potentials varied weakly. The experimental findings were supported by theoretical calculations and electrochromic behavior was observed in the polymers.

Low Band Gap Conjugated Semiconducting Polymers

Markus Clark Scharber et al.

Summary: Important parameters of an organic semiconductor material include the electronic band gap and the positions of the highest occupied and lowest unoccupied bands relative to vacuum. The ability to tune these parameters through molecular chemical design is a key advantage of semiconducting polymers. Low band gap polymers play a crucial role in optoelectronic applications.

Strategies and concepts in n-doped conjugated polymer thermoelectrics

Teck Lip Dexter Tam et al.

Summary: In recent years, there has been a groundbreaking improvement in the thermoelectric performance of n-doped conjugated polymers, with the power factor increasing from 10(-1) μW m(-1) K-2 using traditional materials to 80 μW m(-1) K-2 using new polymers and dopants. This review discusses the various strategies and concepts in chemical structure engineering that have led to this significant enhancement in performance, as well as considerations for device stability and contact resistance.
