Rhodium-Catalyzed Directing Group-Assisted Annulation of Arene C-H Bond with Vinylene Carbonate toward Isocoumarins

Wang Lu et al.

Summary: This article presents a simple synthetic method for the pharmaceutical compound isocoumarins. By utilizing the cyclization reaction between sulfinylidene benzamides and vinylene carbonate, along with directing group-assisted ortho-C-H coupling and intramolecular alcoholysis, nonsubstituted isocoumarins can be efficiently synthesized.

Rh(III)-Catalyzed Annulation of Azobenzenes with Vinylene Carbonate

Zhang Wenjie et al.

Summary: We have developed a mild Rh(III)-catalyzed &ululation of azobenzenes with vinylene carbonate via inert C-H bond activation. In this reaction system, vinylene carbonate provides one vinyl carbon for the construction of indazole backbone and leaves the other one for the formation of aldehyde. This &ululation enables the direct synthesis of 2H-indazole-3-carbaldehyde with excellent regioselectivity in moderate to good yields.

Deconstructive Cycloaromatization Strategy toward N,O-Bidentate Ligands from Indolizines and Cyclopropenones

Jinlei Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, we reported an innovative approach for the construction of N,O-bidentate ligands via the merging of ring deconstruction with cycloaromatization. Our method does not require any catalysts and can deliver a series of polyaryl 2-(pyridin-2-yl)phenols in excellent yields. Furthermore, N,O-bidentate organic BF2 complexes can also be constructed using this one-pot protocol.

Rh(III)-Catalyzed Synthesis of Indazolo[2,3-a]quinolines: Vinylene Carbonate as C1 and C2 Building Blocks

Wei Hu et al.

Summary: A rhodium-catalyzed cyclization of azobenzenes and vinylene carbonate has been developed to construct indazolo[2,3-a]quinolines. This method offers high yields and broad functional group tolerance, forming three C-C bonds and one C-N bond in one pot. Additionally, the resulting products exhibit favorable fluorescence properties.

Ruthenium-catalyzed oxidative coupling of vinylene carbonate with isoxazoles: access to fused anthranils

Pravin Kumar et al.

Summary: A ruthenium-catalyzed method for the direct C-H formylmethylation of various arylisoxazoles using isoxazole ring as a directing group has been developed. Manipulation of reaction conditions leads to the formation of fused-anthranils. Vinylene carbonate serves as both a formylmethyl cation equivalent and an acetylene equivalent through decarboxylation. Control experiments were conducted to explore the possible mechanism. This method provides a convenient and efficient approach for the synthesis of formylmethyl isoxazoles and fused-anthranils.

Synthesis of (2H)-Indazoles and Dihydrocinnolinones through Annulation of Azobenzenes with Vinylene Carbonate under Rh(III) Catalysis

Min Seo Park et al.

Summary: The Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H functionalization and subsequent intramolecular cyclization between azobenzenes and vinylene carbonate leads to the formation of different compounds, such as (2H)-indazoles or dihydrocinnolin-4-ones. Vinylene carbonate surprisingly acts as an acetaldehyde or acetyl surrogate, enabling [4 + 1] or [4 + 2] annulation reaction. This transformation stands out for its mild reaction conditions, simplicity, and excellent functional group compatibility.

Recent advances in the synthesis of indolizine and its derivatives by radical cyclization/cross-coupling

Jieru Hui et al.

Summary: This review systematically examines the current and latest synthetic strategies using radical species or radical intermediates for synthesizing indolizines and their derivatives. The review is classified into two parts based on the type of building blocks used for indolizine ring construction and the type of radical trigger for indolizine derivative construction. We anticipate that this review will provide a deep understanding of this topic and help researchers develop novel approaches for the synthesis of indolizine and its derivatives.
