Microwave-assisted one-pot synthesis of β-cyclodextrin modified biochar for stabilization of Cd and Pb in soil

Jianhua Qu et al.

Summary: Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid crosslinked beta-cyclodextrin modified biochar (BC-CDMW) was prepared using a microwave-assisted one-pot process and applied for the remediation of Cd and Pb contaminated soil. The results showed that BC-CDMW exhibited superior adsorption performance and effectively stabilized the heavy metals through electrostatic attraction, complexation, and pore filling.

Structure-Property Correlation of Hierarchically Porous Carbons for Fluorocarbon Adsorption

Jian Shen et al.

Summary: Traditional commercially available porous carbon-fluorocarbon working pairs are promising for adsorption cooling, but advancements in engineered carbons can further enhance performance, especially in engineered carbons targeting higher sorption capacities. This study utilized hierarchically porous carbons for fluorocarbon R134a adsorption, showing exceptional uptake and outperforming previous carbon materials. The fast kinetics and reversible adsorption-desorption behaviors of fluorocarbon adsorption on these hierarchically porous carbons demonstrate their potential for adsorption cooling applications.

Designing a simple volumetric apparatus for measuring gas adsorption equilibria and kinetics of sorption. Application and validation for CO2, CH4 and N2 adsorption in binder-free beads of 4A zeolite

Mohsen Karimi et al.

Summary: A volumetric apparatus was developed for studying adsorption equilibria and kinetics, validated by experiments on CO2, CH4, and N-2 adsorption. The data collected showed good agreement with published values and was modeled using the Sips model. The sorption kinetics of CO2 was measured and analyzed using a solid-film linear-driving-force model, showing an increase in mass transfer coefficients with pressure and temperature.

Tuning the structure of pyridinolate-based functional ionic liquids for highly efficient SO2 absorption

Guokai Cui et al.

Summary: A series of pyridinolate anion-functional ionic liquids with different cations were designed and studied for their SO2 absorption properties. The results showed that the interaction between cations and anions, as well as various structural parameters, have significant effects on the absorption of SO2. The mechanism of SO2 absorption was found to involve both physical and chemical adsorption processes.

Zirconium and Aluminum MOFs for Low-Pressure SO2 Adsorption and Potential Separation: Elucidating the Effect of Small Pores and NH2 Groups

Philipp Brandt et al.

Summary: Research on Zr- and Al-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for SO2 adsorption showed that frameworks with pore sizes in the range of 4-8 angstroms exhibit optimal sorption capabilities at low pressures. MOFs with NH2 functional groups tend to have enhanced affinity for SO2. Stability tests and density functional theory (DFT) simulations provided insights into the adsorption mechanisms and binding energies of different MOFs towards SO2.

Non-equilibrium solvent extraction in milliflow reactors: Precious and base metal separations with undiluted ionic liquids

Willem Vereycken et al.

Summary: Milliflow devices operating under slug flow conditions show efficient mass transfer, uniform droplet morphology, and narrow residence time distribution, making them ideal for reactions under kinetic control. When used in combination with ionic liquids for solvent extraction, modifications in contact time can improve precious/base metal separation. The observed extraction rates show correlation with equilibrium distribution ratio, and separation is most effective at low halide and metal concentrations.
