The impact of informal patient navigation initiatives on patient empowerment and National Health Insurance responsiveness in Indonesia

Summary: This study examines how informal non-government patient navigation initiatives have emerged, are organized, and operate to enhance patient empowerment and JKN responsiveness in Indonesia. The findings suggest that informal navigation initiatives fill a gap left by formal initiatives, but have limited effects on systemic change or JKN responsiveness. More collaboration with JKN authorities is needed to advance equitable access to NHI.

How can community participation strengthen a health insurance system? The case of health insurer's user associations in Colombia

Summary: This study examines the functionality of health insurance user associations in Colombia and their influence on citizen empowerment and health insurance responsiveness. The study found that the public was widely unaware of the existence of user associations and many associations were weak or inactive. Limited market competition and policies about user associations made insurers indifferent to community involvement. Policy recommendations are warranted to strengthen user associations and truly enable them to effect change.

Did the poor gain from India's health policy interventions? Evidence from benefit-incidence analysis, 2004-2018

Summary: This article examines the impact of health policy interventions and accelerated health investments in India from 2004 to 2018 on the inequality in healthcare service utilization. Results show that the gap in healthcare service utilization between the poor and rich significantly narrowed during this period. The Concentrate Index (CI) in inpatient care in the public sector showed a trend towards more equitable distribution.
