Covalent organic frameworks with high quantum efficiency in sacrificial photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Chunzhi Li et al.

Summary: While organic semiconductors offer a tunable platform for photocatalysis, their performance is often worse compared to inorganic semiconductors. In this study, the incorporation of a donor-acceptor pair into a covalent organic framework significantly prolongs the charge carrier lifetime and enhances the photocatalytic H-2 evolution performance with a platinum co-catalyst.

Arylboron functional covalent organic frameworks for synergistic photocatalytic hydrogen evolution

Xuan Wu et al.

Summary: Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are promising organic polymers that can be used as photocatalysts for water reduction. Two new aryEboron functional COFs, TAB-TFB-COF and TAB-TFP-COF, were synthesized and showed good photocatalytic performance under visible light irradiation. The introduction of aryEboron units improved the separation and transfer ability of charge carriers, leading to enhanced photocatalytic reactions. This research opens up new avenues for the development of COFs in photocatalytic materials.

Band Gap Engineering in Solvochromic 2D Covalent Organic Framework Photocatalysts for Visible Light-Driven Enhanced Solar Fuel Production from Carbon Dioxide

Nem Singh et al.

Summary: This study presents a new strategy of band gap engineering in covalent organic framework (COF) photocatalysts by varying the push-pull electronic effect. Four different COFs with fine-tuned band gaps and band edge positions were synthesized, demonstrating high-efficiency photobiocatalytic systems for NADH photoregeneration and formic acid production under visible light. Morphology-guided enhanced surface area and dual keto-enol tautomerism-induced push-pull effect were identified as key features in fine-tuning the photocatalysts.

Protonated Imine-Linked Covalent Organic Frameworks for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Jin Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that protonation of imine-linked COFs can enhance photocatalytic performance, resulting in high-speed hydrogen production. This is attributed to the significant red-shift in light absorbance, improved charge separation efficiency, and increased hydrophilicity triggered by protonation.

Organobase modulated synthesis of high-quality β-ketoenamine-linked covalent organic frameworks

Rong Wang et al.

Summary: Organobase-assisted synthesis results in beta-ketoenamine-linked COFs with superior crystallinity and porosity compared to those using acidic catalysts. The quality enhancement is attributed to the organobase-modulated transimination, which promotes reaction kinetics for self-improvement of ordered structures.
