THE LABOR MARKET FOR HAITIAN MIGRANTS IN MATO GROSSO DO SUL

This paper aims to analyze the dynamics of the formal labor market for Haitian migrants in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. For this, open interviews are used with 35 (thirty-five) Haitians in the municipalities of Campo Grande, Dourados, Itaquirai and Tres Lagoas, between 2016 and 2020, and ABSTRACT_DETAILS analysis of secondary data from the Annual Social Information Report (RAIS), of the Ministry of Economy, between the years 2012 and 2019. In addition, thirty-two labor lawsuits of the Regional Labor Court of the 24th Region were consulted involving Haitians and employers in the municipalities of Campo Grande, Itaquiraf and Sao Gabriel do Oeste, between 2014 and 2017, in order to identify possible violations of labor rights or overexploitation of work. The results allow demonstrating a segmented, precarious and unstable labor market for Haitians residing in Mato Grosso do Sul, offering few alternatives for social mobility.
