Quantum critical points and the sign problem

R. Mondaini et al.

Summary: The sign problem is a fundamental limitation in simulations of strongly correlated matter. In this study, the quantitive connection between the sign problem in determinant quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) and quantum critical behavior is demonstrated through simulations of several well-understood models. A reinterpretation of the low average sign in the Hubbard model is proposed, relating it to the onset of pseudogap behavior and exotic superconductivity.

Phonon-Mediated Long-Range Attractive Interaction in One-Dimensional Cuprates

Yao Wang et al.

Summary: This study establishes a minimal model for cuprates and highlights the crucial contribution of long-range electron-phonon coupling beyond standard Hubbard models. The research findings suggest a strong attractive interaction between neighboring electrons, comparable to experimental observations, due to nonlocal couplings mediating neighboring interactions. The structural and chemical similarities between 1D and 2D cuprate materials provide important insights for understanding cuprate high-Tc superconductivity and related quantum phases.

Anomalously strong near-neighbor attraction in doped 1D cuprate chains

Zhuoyu Chen et al.

Summary: The synthesis and spectroscopic analysis of the 1D cuprate Ba2-xSrxCuO3+delta over a wide range of hole doping was reported. Angle-resolved photoemission experiments revealed the doping evolution of the holon and spinon branches. An additional strong near-neighbor attraction, possibly arising from coupling to phonons, quantitatively explained the experiments for all accessible doping levels. Consideration of structural and quantum chemistry similarities among cuprates suggests that this attraction may also play a crucial role in high-temperature cuprate superconductors.
