Engineering interfacial coupling between Mo2C nanosheets and Co@NC polyhedron for boosting electrocatalytic water splitting and zinc-air batteries

Tengteng Gu et al.

Summary: A novel noble-metal-free trifunctional heterostructure electrocatalyst Mo2C/Co@NC was successfully fabricated using a metal-organic framework (MOF)-based approach. The improved structural features and strong interfacial coupling effects between Mo2C nanosheets and Co@NC polyhedron significantly enhanced the intrinsic activities and accessible active sites, boosting the electrocatalytic performance for HER, OER and ORR. This study provides a new protocol for constructing high-performance electrocatalysts for water splitting and zinc-air batteries.

Metal-organic framework derived Fe-Co-CN/re duce d graphene oxide for efficient HER and OER

Wenhui Fang et al.

Summary: This study presents a novel hybrid electrocatalyst with excellent performance for hydrogen evolution reactions (HER) and oxygen evolution reactions (OER) in alkaline solution, attributed to highly dispersed iron/cobalt species, sheet structure with high porosity, nitrogen-doped carbon and high conductivity of rGO. The improvement in activity is also linked to the balance of adsorption/desorption of intermediates and increased electronic states near the Fermi level.

One-pot solvothermal synthesis of Co2P nanoparticles: An efficient HER and OER electrocatalysts

Balasingh Thangadurai Jebaslinhepzybai et al.

Summary: A facile one-pot ethyleneglycol-mediated solvothermal synthesis of orthorhombic Co2P with particle size around 20-30 nm was reported as an efficient catalyst for both HER and OER. Co2P showed low overpotentials and long-term stability in acidic and alkaline medium for HER, as well as an overpotential of 364 mV at 10 mA cm(-2) current density for OER. XPS analysis confirmed the formation of amorphous cobalt oxyhydroxide (CoOOH) as an intermediate during the OER process.

La/Ce doped CoFe layered double hydroxides (LDH) highly enhanced oxygen evolution performance of water splitting

Mengke Rong et al.

Summary: A new, low-cost, high-efficiency, and stable oxygen evolution reaction catalyst is designed in this study. La-doped and Ce-doped CoFe LDH exhibit better OER performance compared to pure CoFe LDH, mainly due to the increased defects and enhanced electronic coordination in the system after partial substitution of Fe3+ by La3+ or Ce3+.

Hierarchical CoFe LDH/MOF nanorods array with strong coupling effect grown on carbon cloth enables efficient oxidation of water and urea

Shoushuang Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, a facile chemical etching strategy was used to fabricate a one-dimensional hierarchical nanorods array composed of CoFe layered double hydroxide/metal-organic frameworks on carbon cloth, serving as efficient and stable catalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and urea oxidation reaction (UOR). The resulting catalyst exhibits large active surface area, enhanced conductivity, and extended electron/mass transfer channels, which are beneficial for catalytic reactions. Additionally, the intimate contact between CoFe LDH and MOFs modulates the local electronic structure of the catalytic active site, leading to enhanced adsorption of oxygen-containing intermediates to facilitate fast electrocatalytic reaction.
