Surfactant free-poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) coated artesunate loaded citrate-functionalized hydroxyapatite nanorods as a nanocapsule for improving artesunate delivery and antitumor efficiency

Nehal Salahuddin et al.

Summary: The development of targeted drug delivery systems with controlled drug release and enhanced drug bioavailability has attracted increased attention in clinical applications. In this study, biocompatible citrate-functionalized hydroxyapatite nanorods loaded with artesunate were encapsulated into surfactant-free PLGA nanoparticles. The encapsulated nanoparticles demonstrated improved drug release and anti-cancer activity compared to free artesunate.

Study of mordenite natural zeolite type modified by Cu(II) cation as an oral safe drug carrier for ibuprofen and meloxicam

Yantus A. B. Neolaka et al.

Summary: This research focused on purifying mordenite (Mor) from natural zeolite and modifying it with Cu(II) to create a new oral safe drug delivery material Cu(II)-Mor. Ibuprofen and meloxicam were used as drug models to test drug loading on Cu(II)-Mor. The drug carrier and loading materials were characterized using FTIR, XRD, and FESEM-EDS. In addition to drug loading capacity, factors such as drug release, zeta potential, and cytotoxicity were investigated for the use of Cu(II)-Mor as a drug carrier. The release of meloxicam from Cu(II)-Mor showed the highest release after 1200 minutes at pH 7, with a dissolution percentage of 93.17%. The release of Ibuprofen from Cu(II)-Mor occurred after 1200 minutes at pH 7, with a dissolution percentage of 90.98%. Ibuprofen and meloxicam release from Cu(II)-Mor followed the Peppas-Sahlin model, indicating that Fickian diffusion and Case II relaxations dominate the drug transport mechanism from mordenite. The results demonstrated that Cu(II)-Mor has good cytocompatibility, drug loading, and drug release properties. The zeta potential test also showed that the drug carrier material has high stability in the dispersion system. Overall, Cu(II)-Mor can be used as a safe oral drug material.

New aryl Schiff bases of thiadiazole derivative of ibuprofen as DNA binders and potential anticancer drug candidates

Shahid Iqbal Farooqi et al.

Summary: This paper describes the synthesis of two new aryl Schiff bases and investigates their binding properties with DNA. The results reveal that both ASB-1 and ASB-2 bind significantly with DNA, with ASB-1 showing greater affinity and anticancer potency. The experimental findings are supported by spectral and voltammetric results, as well as in-vitro studies on cancer cell lines.

Influence of Ionic Interaction Strength on Glass Formation of an Ion-Containing Polymer Melt

Zhenyue Yang et al.

Summary: Extensive molecular dynamics simulations of ion-containing polymer melts show that both thermodynamic and dynamic properties are strongly influenced by ionic interaction strength, with characteristic temperatures of glass formation increasing linearly with increasing strength. Additionally, the growth of fragility with increasing ionic interaction strength is somewhat nonlinear. The string model of glass formation is found to provide an excellent description of the relationship between structural relaxation time and string length, indicating the potential of entropy theory in studying the glass formation of ion-containing polymers.

Zeta potentials (ζ) of metal oxide nanoparticles: A meta-analysis of experimental data and a predictive neural networks modeling

Natalia Sizochenko et al.

Summary: Zeta potential is crucial for estimating the surface charge and stability of nanomaterials, with theoretical methods commonly used for safety assessments. Inconsistencies in data measurements pose challenges for predictive modeling, emphasizing the need for data curation. A structure-property relationship model can predict zeta potential values under different environmental conditions.

Evaluation of magnetic material IIP@GO-Fe3O4 based on Kesambi wood (Schleichera oleosa) as a potential adsorbent for the removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solutions

Yantus A. B. Neolaka et al.

Summary: The magnetic composite material IIP@GO-Fe3O4 based on GO from kesambi wood was successfully synthesized and demonstrated excellent adsorption performance for Cr(VI). The kinetic modeling revealed a pseudo-second-order mechanism, while the adsorption isotherm followed the Dubinin-Radushkevich model. The study also showed that the adsorption process was favorable at a temperature of 323 K, with higher selectivity and reusability compared to NIP@GO-Fe3O4.

Optimization delivery of 5-fluorouracil onto different morphologies of ZnO NPs: release and functional effects against colorectal cancer cell lines

Nehal Salahuddin et al.

Summary: The research focused on the excellent antimicrobial and anticancer efficacy of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) in drug delivery systems. Different morphologies and particle sizes of ZnO NPs were prepared and characterized, showing that the adsorption capacity, antibacterial and anticancer activities, drug loading capacity, and release profile of 5-fluorouracil were influenced by the morphology and size of nanoparticles. Spheres and flower-shaped ZnO NPs loaded with the drug exhibited higher efficacy against colon cancer cells compared to pure drug.
