Summary: This study revealed that under hypoxic conditions, hyaluronic acid (HA) enhances the expression of extracellular matrix genes and proteins in nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs), as well as increases CD44 expression. Hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α) plays a key role in the transcriptional activation of CD44, further promoting matrix synthesis in NPCs in the presence of HA.

Summary: This study showed that MSC secretome can reduce pro-inflammatory gene expression in degenerated IVDs, promote matrix degrading enzyme expression, and increase aggrecan deposition. Additionally, the secretome had a strong immunomodulatory role in the degenerated IVD, making it a potential therapeutic approach for low-back pain.
