Methanol oxidation on Au(332): methyl formate selectivity and surface deactivation under isothermal conditions

Christoph D. Feldt et al.

Summary: The oxidation of methanol on the Au(332) surface was investigated, and it was found that the maximum formation of methyl formate occurred at 250 K. Increasing the methanol to oxygen ratio increased the selectivity to methyl formate and decreased the unwanted overoxidation.

Dilute Alloys Based on Au, Ag, or Cu for Efficient Catalysis: From Synthesis to Active Sites

Jennifer D. Lee et al.

Summary: The development of new catalyst materials is crucial for energy-efficient chemical synthesis. Dilute alloy catalysts, which enhance reactivity and retain selectivity, show great promise. The integrated approach, combining materials synthesis, surface chemistry, reaction kinetics, characterization, and theoretical calculations, can predict and improve catalytic selectivity. This approach bridges the gap between fundamental knowledge and the design of complex catalytic systems, leading to the development of new and efficient catalytic processes.

Methanol oxidation on Au(332): an isothermal pulsed molecular beam study

Christoph D. Feldt et al.

Summary: Isothermal molecular beam experiments were conducted on the methanol oxidation over the stepped Au(332) surface under well-defined ultra-high vacuum conditions. The results suggest a different reactivity of oxygen for competing reaction pathways in the oxidation of methanol.
