Simultaneous screening of zebrafish larvae cardiac and respiratory functions: a microfluidic multi-phenotypic approach

Cadmium chloride-induced transgenerational neurotoxicity in zebrafish development

Summary: Cadmium is a significant environmental pollutant that can harm the ecological environment and organismal health, affecting behavior, neurotransmitter levels, and neuronal development in offspring. Exposure to cadmium chloride in sexually-mature zebrafish led to reduced swimming speed and distance in F1 offspring, disruption of neurotransmitter levels, and altered gene expression related to neuro-development and neurotransmitter metabolism, causing developmental neurotoxicity. These findings highlight the harm that cadmium chloride poses to aquatic ecosystems.

Open access tool and microfluidic devices for phenotypic quantification of heart function of intact fruit fly and zebrafish larvae

Summary: This study quantified the heartbeat parameters of small model organisms, fruit fly and zebrafish, in-vivo using microfluidics and a novel MATLAB-based software. The software automatically detected heartbeats, extracted heartbeat signals, and removed noise, enabling quantification of various heart parameters in intact larvae. This method provides a new approach for research in cardiac physiology of model organisms.

Zebrafish larva's response and habituation to electric signal: Effects of voltage, current and pulsation studied in a microfluidic device

Summary: Through experiments using a microfluidic device, we found that changing the direction of electric current and voltage magnitude significantly affected the locomotion response of zebrafish larvae. Repeated exposure to electric pulses led to a diminishing response in the larvae, but the response could be fully recovered after a period of rest or introduction of a new stimulus, indicating habituation as a form of non-associative learning.

The evaluation of zebrafish cardiovascular and behavioral functions through microfluidics
