Laser processing of ceramic materials for electrochemical and high temperature energy applications

5 kW SOFC stack via 3D printing manufacturing: An evaluation of potential environmental benefits

Summary: This study evaluates the environmental performance of a Solid Oxide Fuel Cell stack produced using 3D printing and finds that 3D printing has the highest environmental impact in the material production stage, but minimal impact in the end-of-life stage. Recycling 70% of Nickel and YSZ materials performs better than landfill and incineration disposal scenarios, and 3D printing shows better overall environmental performance compared to other conventional methods.
