Post-anaerobic treatability and residual biogas potential of digestate

Sibel Uludag-Demirer et al.

Summary: Anaerobic digestion is an established method for stabilizing organic waste, but cost-effective digestate management methods are crucial for maximizing its benefits. This study quantified anaerobic treatability and biogas production from digestates of three full-scale digesters, showing methane yields and removal rates aligned with literature values. The findings highlight the importance of digestate treatment and valorization for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and increasing methane recovery.

Review on anaerobic digestion models: Model classification & elaboration of process phenomena

Samuel Emebu et al.

Summary: This article reviews mathematical models of anaerobic digestion (AD) and classifies them. In addition, it discusses the biochemical stages and other processes essential to AD, and reviews the models on these processes. The comprehensive approach of this review aims to evaluate the interdependence and individual and interactive effects of all processes, process factors, and process estimations on AD.

Strategies to boost anaerobic digestion performance of cow manure: Laboratory achievements and their full-scale application potential

Yu Li et al.

Summary: Anaerobic digestion of cow manure can reduce waste and generate renewable energy, but dedicated intensifications are necessary to promote the degradation of lignocellulosic components. Strategies such as co-digestion and pretreatment play a predominant role in enhancing digestion performance of cow manure.

Optimisation of methane fermentation as a valorisation method for food waste products

Joanna Kazimierowicz et al.

Summary: The study aimed to optimize methane fermentation of food waste by identifying the best composition of substrates mixture and technical parameters of anaerobic digestion. Mesophilic conditions yielded higher biogas production compared to thermophilic conditions due to the presence of higher VFAs concentration. Above a certain OLR threshold, methane fermentation was inhibited.

The Influence of Co-Fermentation of Agri-Food Waste with Primary Sludge on Biogas Production and Composition of the Liquid Fraction of Digestate

Anna Wilinska-Lisowska et al.

Summary: Energy self-sufficiency in wastewater treatment plants can be achieved by increasing electricity production from biogas and reducing energy consumption. Co-fermentation with waste rich in organic matter can significantly increase biogas production and nitrogen concentration in reject water, without inhibiting the fermentation process.

Anaerobic co-digestion: Current status and perspectives

Renisha Karki et al.

Summary: Co-digestion technology offers enhanced digestibility, improved process stability, and higher nutrient value compared to mono-digestion. A critical comparison of mono-digestion and co-digestion reveals the latter's greater flexibility and sustainability in handling diverse feedstocks.
