Vibrio cholerae was found in cultured bullfrog

Yibin Yang et al.

Summary: In recent years, a fatal bacterial disease has been frequently found in cultured bullfrogs in China, causing severe intestinal inflammation and anal prolapse. The isolated bacterial pathogen was identified as Vibrio cholerae. This study revealed the presence of V. cholerae in diseased bullfrogs for the first time, providing a basis for the diagnosis and control of the disease.

A practical evaluation of machine learning for classification of ultrasound images of ovarian development in channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus)

Clinten A. A. Graham et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the feasibility of using machine learning approaches to classify ultrasound images of catfish ovaries and found that both traditional and deep learning methods achieved high levels of accuracy. However, traditional models outperformed deep learning models in calculating image vectors.

Partially replacing dietary fish meal by Saccharomyces cerevisiae culture improve growth performance, immunity, disease resistance, composition and function of intestinal microbiota in channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus)

Qiang Hao et al.

Summary: The present study investigated the effects of replacing fish meal with Saccharomyces cerevisiae culture on the growth performance, immunity, intestinal microbiota, and disease resistance in channel catfish. The results showed that the replacement improved weight gain, condition factor, and reduced feed conversion rate. The changes in intestinal microbiota played a critical role in enhancing immunity and disease resistance.

Comparison of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and rpoB gene sequencing for the identification of clinical isolates of Aeromonas spp.

Daisuke Kitagawa et al.

Summary: In this study, the accuracy of two different bacterial identification methods, rpoB gene sequencing in conjunction with phylogenetic analysis and MALDI-TOF MS, were compared for differentiating Aeromonas spp. The results showed that rpoB sequencing method was the most accurate for species level identification, while MALDI Biotyper and VITEK MS accurately identified isolates at the genus level. However, MALDI-TOF MS-based methods had the advantages of low cost and ease of analysis, making them suitable for use in clinical laboratories.

Dual RNA-Seq of Trunk Kidneys Extracted From Channel Catfish Infected With Yersinia ruckeri Reveals Novel Insights Into Host-Pathogen Interactions

Yibin Yang et al.

Summary: The study on the host-pathogen interaction between channel catfish and Yersinia ruckeri revealed the dynamic regulation of the transcriptome during infection, with significant upregulation of immune-related pathways. Specifically, the infection was found to be closely related to metabolic pathways, and the pathogenesis promoted by Y. ruckeri in channel catfish was mainly through the flagellum gene fliC. This research contributes to understanding how catfish respond to infection and develop enteric red mouth disease (ERM) through a transcriptional perspective.

Molecular evolution of kalliklectin in teleost and identification of the novel type with eight apple domains in channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus

Shigeyuki Tsutsui et al.

Summary: Kalliklectin is a unique fish-specific lectin with sequence similarity to mammalian proteases, comprising characteristic apple domains. Anomalous kalliklectins with multiple apple domains were found in Siluriformes species, suggesting duplications in a common ancestor. The differential expression and duplication patterns make this lectin unique in biology.
