Controlled Release of Epigenetically-Enhanced Extracellular Vesicles from a GelMA/Nanoclay Composite Hydrogel to Promote Bone Repair

Kenny Man et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of using a GelMA-LAP hydrogel to improve the retention and delivery of epigenetically enhanced osteoblast-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs). The results showed that LAP can enhance the mechanical properties and shape fidelity of GelMA hydrogels, as well as increase mineralization capacity and release of EVs from the hydrogel.

Sustained released of bioactive mesenchymal stromal cell-derived extracellular vesicles from 3D-printed gelatin methacrylate hydrogels

Louis J. Born et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the incorporation of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs) into 3D-printed gelatin methacrylate (GelMA) hydrogel bioink. The initial burst release of EVs can be reduced by increasing the concentration of crosslinker during gelation. The bioactivity of MSC EVs is retained after the 3D printing and photocrosslinking processes, indicating the therapeutic potential of MSC EV-laden GelMA bioinks.

Hybrid extracellular vesicles-liposome incorporated advanced bioink to deliver microRNA

Kamil Elkhoury et al.

Summary: In this study, the inclusion of naturally occurring nanovesicles (EVs) into bioinks was explored to efficiently deliver gene expression regulators in bioprinted tissues. The fusion of EVs with liposomes was used to prolong and control their release, enabling efficient encapsulation and delivery of gene expression regulators.

Engineering extracellular vesicles with platelet membranes fusion enhanced targeted therapeutic angiogenesis in a mouse model of myocardial ischemia reperfusion

Qiyu Li et al.

Summary: The study introduced a method to enhance therapeutic angiogenesis based on platelet membrane-engineered EVs, which endowed EVs with the targeting ability of platelets and successfully promoted therapeutic angiogenesis in a mouse model. This engineering strategy provides a new approach to design other targeted EVs fused with membranes from different cell sources.
