Empathy and Self-Efficacy in Elderly Nursing Practice among Korean Nurses

Summary: In integrated nurse care service wards in South Korea, nurses demonstrate slightly higher levels of empathy, almost intermediate levels of self-efficacy, and high levels of elderly nursing practice. The only significant factor impacting elderly nursing practice is empathy, suggesting that nurses need to enhance their empathy towards the elderly to improve their nursing practice. Strategies or interventions should be provided in nursing management to enhance nurses' empathy in integrated nurse care service wards in South Korea.

Intensity, dynamics and deficiencies of empathy in medical and non-medical students

Summary: This study found that university students preparing for medical professions have lower levels of empathy compared to students studying in non-medical programs, and empathy tends to decrease after the third year of studies regardless of university type. Students with Asperger profile and high-functioning autism are more likely to study in universities preparing for medical professions. It is recommended to introduce career counseling when choosing a specialization.
