FcGBP and VCAM-1 are ponderable biomarkers for differential diagnosis of alcoholic liver cirrhosis

Kodjo-Kunale Abassa et al.

Summary: This study identified two promising biomarkers (FcGBP and VCAM-1) for diagnosing ALD and differentiating ALD+HBV from HBV using proteomics mass spectrometry technique. The combination of these biomarkers showed high accuracy in identifying ALD and differentiating ALD+HBV from HBV, outperforming other biomarker combinations.

PLK1 (polo like kinase 1)-dependent autophagy facilitates gefitinib-induced hepatotoxicity by degrading COX6A1 (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 6A1)

Peihua Luo et al.

Summary: Liver dysfunction is a prominent dose-limiting toxicity of gefitinib, which activates autophagy and then apoptosis in hepatocytes. Autophagy is involved in gefitinib-induced hepatotoxicity, while PLK1 plays a crucial role in the autophagy-promoted apoptosis pathway. Pharmacological inhibition of PLK1 could be a promising therapeutic strategy to improve the safety of gefitinib-based cancer therapy.

Transcriptome-Wide Analysis of Human Liver Reveals Age-Related Differences in the Expression of Select Functional Gene Clusters and Evidence for a PPP1R10-Governed 'Aging Cascade'

Thomas Schreiter et al.

Summary: This study is the first to conduct a comprehensive transcriptome analysis of the human liver, revealing significant differences between young and old livers. The identified age-related gene alterations may shed light on important consequences for liver and systemic health, provide novel pharmacogenetic information, and improve understanding of individual decline.

Progressive alcohol-related liver fibrosis is characterised by imbalanced collagen formation and degradation

Maja Thiele et al.

Summary: The study revealed an imbalance in extracellular matrix remodelling in patients with alcohol-related liver disease, with collagen formation and degradation becoming increasingly imbalanced with more severe disease. This has important implications for monitoring and early identification of patients at highest risk of progressing to cirrhosis.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Alcohol-Associated Liver Disease A Review

Ashwani K. Singal et al.

Summary: Alcohol-associated liver disease is a major cause of cirrhosis, with significant risk factors including amount and duration of alcohol consumption, gender, obesity, and specific genetic polymorphisms. Abstinence can greatly improve survival rates for patients with alcohol-associated liver disease.

The Matrisome Genes From Hepatitis B-Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma Unveiled

Wei Chen et al.

Summary: This study identified 80 matrisome genes associated with HBV-related HCC, along with four significant matrisome gene modules and two patient subgroups. Additionally, four liver-specific matrisome genes involved in HBV-related HCC progression and prognosis were discovered.

Molecular and cellular mechanisms of liver fibrosis and its regression

Tatiana Kisseleva et al.

Summary: Chronic liver injury results in liver inflammation and fibrosis, which can be reversed by eliminating activated myofibroblasts and resorbing the fibrous scar. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying liver fibrosis and its reversibility can lead to the identification of new therapeutic targets for liver fibrosis treatment.
