Effects and behaviors of Microcystis aeruginosa in defluorination by two Al-based coagulants, AlCl3 and Al13

Yu Xiang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the addition of algal cells could enhance fluoride removal efficiency by increasing the distribution of Al(OH)(3) in flocs. However, excessive Al3+ could damage algal cells and worsen the defluoridation effect by releasing intracellular organic matter. On the other hand, Al-13 mainly removed fluoride through ion exchange, substitution, and hydrogen bonding, maintaining defluoridation performance effectively at high dosages without damaging the integrity of algal cells.

Surface water treatment benefits from the presence of algae: Influence of algae on the coagulation behavior of polytitanium chloride

Yanxia Zhao et al.

Summary: Titanium-based coagulation has been proven effective for purifying micro-polluted water containing algae, with the presence of algae enhancing the removal of organic matter. The study found that polytitanium coagulation is highly effective in separating algae from surface water, even achieving up to 98% removal. The presence of algae in water can assist polytitanium coagulation by acting as an additional coagulant or flocculation aid.

Summary: This study discusses the toxicity of fluoride in the environment, related defluoridation technologies, operational costs and effectiveness. It is noted that adsorption is currently the main technique for defluoridation, but requires further development. Additionally, industrial effluents may have high fluoride concentrations, traditional treatment methods are ineffective and hybrid treatments are needed.

Removal of F- and organic matter from coking wastewater by coupling dosing FeCl3 and AlCl3

Shuo Li et al.

Summary: In this study, the removal of F- and organic matter from coking wastewater using AlCl3 and FeCl3 as compound coagulants was investigated. The results showed that AlCl3 had a higher removal rate for F- while FeCl3 had a higher removal rate for organic matter. The addition of Ca2+ was found to promote the removal of F- but decrease the removal rate of organic matter.

Pre-aggregation of Al13 in optimizing coagulation for removal of humic acid

Ye Yue et al.

Summary: The study investigated the coagulation mechanism for removing humic acid (HA) using Al-13 and optimized its operation. Results showed that preformed Al(13)agg performed better than Al-13 in removing HA, due to its wider pH range and lower residual aluminum levels. The different coagulation mechanisms for Al-13 and Al(13)agg played roles in HA removal, with complexation and charge neutralization dominating for Al-13 and sweep flocculation and adsorption coagulation being the main driving forces for Al(13)agg.

Room-temperature synthesis of MIL-100(Fe) and its adsorption performance for fluoride removal from water

Weifeng Li et al.

Summary: A novel strategy for room-temperature synthesis of MIL-100(Fe) using an organic amine as a deprotonating agent was proposed, and the resulting solid product, R-MIL-100(Fe), was characterized through various methods. The study found that R-MIL-100(Fe) had a high fluoride adsorption capacity, with the adsorption process belonging to surface adsorption and intraparticle diffusion. Additionally, R-MIL-100(Fe) exhibited excellent fluoride adsorption performance in a pH range of 4-10.
