Turmeric Extract (Curcuma longa) Mediates Anti-Oxidative Effects by Reduction of Nitric Oxide, iNOS Protein-, and mRNA-Synthesis in BV2 Microglial Cells

Jana Streyczek et al.

Summary: Plant-derived products have been used for centuries to treat various conditions. Recent research suggests that turmeric and its active components have potential in reducing oxidative stress. This study investigated the effects of turmeric extract on the molecular pathway leading to oxidative stress in BV2 microglial cells. The results showed a reduction in NO levels through decreased synthesis of iNOS protein and mRNA.

A Perspective on Nrf2 Signaling Pathway for Neuroinflammation: A Potential Therapeutic Target in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases

Sarmistha Saha et al.

Summary: Neuroinflammation plays a crucial role in Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease, leading to protein aggregation and neuronal damage. Current drug treatments have failed, so alternative therapeutic strategies are needed. Research has shown the potential of the Nrf2 signaling pathway in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions, making it a promising new approach for treating neurodegenerative diseases.

Role of Nrf2 in Parkinson's Disease: Toward New Perspectives

Xin-xing Yang et al.

Summary: Parkinson's disease is a common and chronic degenerative disease in the central nervous system. The main pathology involves the loss of dopaminergic neurons and the formation of Lewy bodies. The pathogenesis of PD is influenced by various independent factors, and regulating the Nrf2 pathway may be a promising strategy for preventing and treating PD.

Carrageenophyte Kappaphycus malesianus Inhibits Microglia-Mediated Neuroinflammation via Suppression of AKT/NF-κB and ERK Signaling Pathways

Nicole Jean-Yean Lai et al.

Summary: This study found that extracts from Kappaphycus malesianus, a red seaweed cultivated in Malaysia, have anti-neuroinflammatory activity by regulating multiple neuroinflammatory pathways. Methanol extract showed the most promising anti-neuroinflammatory effect without causing cytotoxicity. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis revealed the presence of two compounds in the methanol extract. These findings indicate that metabolites of K. malesianus have potential as anti-neuroinflammatory agents for preventing neurological disorders.
