Clinical Characteristics, Prognosis, and Gender Disparities in Young Patients With Acute Myocardial Infarction

Junxing Lv et al.

Summary: Young patients aged <= 45 years with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) represent a considerable portion of AMI cases, demonstrating higher prevalence of smoking and hyperlipidemia but better care and prognosis compared with older patients. There are significant gender disparities in the management and outcomes of young patients, particularly with young women being less likely to receive certain treatments and experiencing higher risks of adverse events, highlighting the need for further efforts to improve the quality of care for young women.

Global, regional, and national burdens of ischemic heart disease and stroke attributable to exposure to long working hours for 194 countries, 2000-2016: A systematic analysis from the WHO/ILO Joint Estimates of the Work-related Burden of Disease and Injury

Frank Pega et al.

Summary: Research shows that working long hours (>=55 hours per week) is associated with higher risks of ischemic heart disease and stroke. Nearly 488 million people globally are exposed to long working hours, leading to a significant burden of deaths and disability-adjusted life years.

Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 suggests that metabolic risk factors are the leading drivers of the burden of ischemic heart disease

Wenxin Wang et al.

Summary: Metabolic risk factors have become the main driver of ischemic heart disease (IHD), with global IHD-related death cases steadily increasing while mortality rates decline. Effective measures are urgently needed to control metabolic risk factors in order to prevent further increases in IHD-related deaths.

Worldwide trends in hypertension prevalence and progress in treatment and control from 1990 to 2019: a pooled analysis of 1201 population-representative studies with 104 million participants

Bin Zhou et al.

Summary: Global prevalence of hypertension doubled from 1990 to 2019, with significant improvements in detection, treatment, and control rates. In 2019, 59% of women and 49% of men with hypertension were previously diagnosed, while treatment rates were 47% for women and 38% for men, with control rates at 23% for women and 18% for men. Disparities exist across countries, with some middle-income nations now outperforming high-income countries in hypertension management.

Changes in ST segment elevation myocardial infarzzction hospitalisations in China from 2011 to 2015

Tianna Zhou et al.

Summary: Access to acute cardiovascular care has improved in China over the past decades. However, while the proportion of patients with ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) decreased, the number of patients with STEMI increased. The use of acute reperfusion therapies increased, but there was no significant improvement in in-hospital death rates. Continued efforts to prevent cardiovascular diseases and reduce prehospital delays are necessary.
