An occupant-centric adaptive facade based on real-time and contactless glare and thermal discomfort estimation using deep learning algorithm

Yuxiao Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a workflow to design an adaptive facade that considers occupants' glare and thermal discomfort. A CNN-based model is introduced to identify user behaviors and an adaptive facade control system is proposed based on captured occupant postures and spatial position. Validation results show that the system can accurately recognize user postures and make real-time adjustments, improving occupants' visual and thermal comfort.

State of the Art of Technologies in Adaptive Dynamic Building Envelopes (ADBEs)

Negar Mohtashami et al.

Summary: The design of adaptive facades that dynamically respond to weather conditions and occupants' demands is becoming increasingly popular in modern constructions due to their high energy efficiency. This paper provides a systematic review of the technologies used in the design of Adaptive Dynamic Building Envelopes (ADBEs), highlighting the most prevalent practices and the most cutting-edge research approximations. The analysis shows that photovoltaics (PVs) are widely used in ADBE design, followed by mechanical ventilation and heat pumps. There is a clear gap between the use of simulation methods and experimental work in the field.
