Zero Magnetic Field Plateau Phase Transition in Higher Chern Number Quantum Anomalous Hall Insulators

Yi-Fan Zhao et al.

Summary: The plateau-to-plateau transition in the quantum Hall effect is a quantum phase transition between two topological states. Recent advancements in the development of quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) insulators have allowed for the study of this transition under zero magnetic field. By synthesizing magnetic topological insulator (TI)/TI pentalayer heterostructures, the researchers observed a potential plateau phase transition between C = 1 and C = 2 QAH states.

Quantized bulk conductivity as a local Chern marker

Peru d'Ornellas et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new local marker method for characterizing Chern insulator systems by measuring local cross conductivity in the bulk. The research finds that the marker corresponds to expressions for the Chern number and shows examples of its quantization and robustness against disorder in various systems.

Evolution of Berry curvature and reentrant quantum anomalous Hall effect in an intrinsic magnetic topological insulator

Chui-Zhen Chen et al.

Summary: By studying the Berry curvature splitting mechanism in multilayers of magnetic topological insulators, the quantum anomalous Hall effect can be realized. The splitting of Berry curvature during magnetic switching leads to the generation of a QAH insulator, which can be detected by tuning the gate voltage.

Critical Behavior and Universal Signature of an Axion Insulator State

Hailong Li et al.

Summary: The search for an axion insulator state in the ferromagnetic-3D topological insulator (TI) heterostructure and MnBi2Te4 has attracted intense interest recently. A systematic investigation of the disorder-induced phase transition of the axion insulator state in a 3D TI with antiparallel magnetization alignment surfaces reveals a 2D disorder-induced phase transition on the surfaces of the 3D TI. A phenomenological theory maps the random mass Dirac Hamiltonian of the axion insulator state into the Chalker-Coddington network model, providing a way to probe the axion insulator state by investigating the universal signature of such a phase transition.
