Magnetically Reconfigurable Unidirectional Propagation of Electromagnetic Waves by Zero-Index-Based Heterostructured Metamaterials

Qilin Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, a zero-index-based heterostructured magnetic metamaterial is presented, which allows for unidirectional propagation of electromagnetic waves that can be reconfigured depending on the bias magnetic field. The research shows that two different types of metamaterials can be constructed to achieve unidirectional transport of electromagnetic waves.

METAMATERIALS Asymmetric control of light at the nanoscale

Christos Argyropoulos

Summary: Breaking reciprocity at the nanoscale can lead to the directional formation of images using asymmetric nonlinear optical response of subwavelength anisotropic resonators. The self-induced passive non-reciprocity offers advantages over magnet or time modulation approaches and has the potential to impact classical and quantum photonics.

Investigation of the net gain behavior in Er:Ti:LiNbO3 waveguide amplifier by an erbium-doped As2S3 and undoped As2S3 overlay

Keyvan Ahmadi et al.

Summary: The fabrication and characterization of As2S3 and erbium-doped As2S3 layers on Er:Ti:LiNbO3 channel waveguide amplifiers were reported and compared with Er:Ti:LiNbO3 channel amplifier for the first time. Despite the lack of improvement in net gain due to the presence of pump-induced up-converted green light and moisture diffused in overlay waveguides, this work represents a step towards the realization of hybrid waveguide amplifiers with loss compensation in nonlinear photonics.

One-sided destructive quantum interference from an exceptional-point-based metasurface

Hong Liang et al.

Summary: We propose the concept of one-sided destructive quantum interference based on lossy metasurfaces, which enables unidirectional quantum interference and can be further made totally destructive. This effect, combined with unidirectional zero reflection (UZR), provides more degrees of freedom in quantum interference control and entangled states construction.
