Coexisting structural disorder and robust spin-polarization in half-metallic FeMnVAl

Shuvankar Gupta et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel quaternary Heusler alloy-FeMnVAl-has been synthesized and its structural, magnetic, transport, and electronic properties have been studied through theoretical calculations and experiments. The presence of site disorder between the Fe and Mn atoms in the stable ordered structure of the system is observed. The magnetic measurements confirm the ferromagnetic behavior and the Mossbauer spectroscopy measurements suggest that only the Mn spins are responsible for the magnetic order.

Collinear order in the spin-5/2 triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Na3Fe(PO4)2

Sebin J. Sebastian et al.

Summary: In this study, the structural and magnetic properties of the frustrated spin-5/2 triangle lattice antiferromagnet Na3Fe(PO4)2 were investigated using various experimental techniques. The results show the presence of magnetic long-range order at low temperatures and a field-induced spin-flop transition. The intermediate value of the frustration ratio reflects moderate frustration in the compound.

Frustration-driven magnetic fluctuations as the origin of the low-temperature skyrmion phase in Co7Zn7Mn6

V Ukleev et al.

Summary: This study reveals a direct correlation between the stability of the second skyrmion phase in the chiral magnet Co7Zn7Mn6 and an underlying magnetic fluctuation rate driven by geometric magnetic frustration. It shows weak influences of other leading skyrmion stability mechanisms in this system, and suggests a fundamental mechanism for stabilizing topological skyrmions drawing upon magnetic frustration.

Complex magnetic properties associated with competing local and itinerant magnetism in Pr2Co0.86Si2.88

Mily Kundu et al.

Summary: The ternary intermetallic compound Pr2Co0.86Si2.88 has been successfully synthesized and characterized through various analysis methods. The compound exhibits a magnetic transition and antiferromagnetic ordering, with a glassy structure at high temperatures. The antiferromagnetic coupling between Pr 4f and Co 3d spins is responsible for the low temperature magnetic transition.

Large exchange bias and low-temperature glassy state in the frustrated triangular-lattice antiferromagnet Ba3NiIr2O9

Shobha Gondh et al.

Summary: In this study, the magnetic, thermodynamic, and electric properties of hexagonal Ba3NiIr2O9 were investigated. The interactions between Ni2+ and Ir5+ resulted in complex magnetic frustration and a spin-glass transition, showing a nonequilibrium ground state. The system exhibited large exchange bias and specific thermodynamic behaviors at low temperatures.

Square skyrmion crystal in centrosymmetric itinerant magnets

Satoru Hayami et al.

Summary: The research investigates the square-type skyrmion crystal in centrosymmetric itinerant magnets, finding that it is stabilized by interactions between positive biquadratic, bond-dependent anisotropic, and easy-axis anisotropic interactions. This is different from triangular skyrmion crystals, which are stabilized by only one of the three interactions, indicating that the square skyrmion crystal is characteristic of itinerant magnets with magnetic anisotropy. The study also reveals a variety of noncollinear and noncoplanar spin textures depending on model parameters and applied magnetic fields.
