Iterative subspace algorithms for finite-temperature solution of Dyson equation

Pavel Pokhilko et al.

Summary: This paper studies acceleration techniques to directly solve the self-consistent solution of the Dyson equation. By using direct inversion, least-squared commutator, and Krylov space accelerated inexact Newton method, it is found that the commutator residuals outperform the difference residuals. Additionally, for certain cases, convergence of difficult low-temperature solutions can be achieved by sequentially reducing the temperature.

Discrete Lehmann representation of imaginary time Green's functions

Jason Kaye et al.

Summary: We present an efficient basis for imaginary time Green's functions based on a low-rank decomposition of the spectral Lehmann representation. The basis functions are simply a set of well-chosen exponentials, and the corresponding expansion can be considered as a discrete form of the Lehmann representation. The basis is determined by an upper bound on the product beta omega(max), the inverse temperature and energy cutoff, and a user-defined error tolerance. The number of basis functions scales logarithmically with the product beta omega(max) and the reciprocal of the error tolerance. The basis functions and interpolation nodes can be obtained rapidly using standard numerical linear algebra routines. The discrete Lehmann representation of the Green's function can be transformed to the Matsubara frequency domain or obtained directly by interpolation on a Matsubara frequency grid.

Low-Scaling GW with Benchmark Accuracy and Application to Phosphorene Nanosheets

Jan Wilhelm et al.

Summary: GW is an accurate method for computing electron addition and removal energies, but its conventional implementation has high computational cost, limiting its application to many systems. A low-scaling GW algorithm with improved accuracy was presented, demonstrating strong size-dependent variation in the fundamental gap of phosphorene nanosheets when applied.

Nevanlinna Analytical Continuation

Jiani Fei et al.

Summary: By explicitly respecting the analytic Nevanlinna structure of Green's function, this study shows that positive and normalized spectral functions can be obtained, and presents a continued fraction expansion method to derive all possible functions consistent with the analytic structure. Application to synthetic trial data and the band structure of silicon demonstrate the accurate resolution of sharp, smooth, and multipeak data, as well as high energy features. Continuations in a realistic correlated setup reveal previously unresolved additional features, substantially increasing the resolution of real frequency calculations and overcoming a main limitation of finite-temperature quantum simulations.

The GW Miracle in Many-Body Perturbation Theory for the Ionization Potential of Molecules

Fabien Bruneval et al.

Summary: This study systematically evaluates the quality of several perturbation theories against high-level quantum chemistry methods, finding GW to be the most accurate approximation for ionization potentials. Attempts to improve upon GW by adding more diagrams were mostly unsuccessful, with only the inclusion of a GW density-matrix showing positive impact. Additionally, using an improved hybrid functional for the non-interacting Green's function further enhanced the accuracy of the simplest GW approximation.

Fast periodic Gaussian density fitting by range separation

Hong-Zhou Ye et al.

Summary: This paper presents an efficient implementation of periodic Gaussian density fitting using the Coulomb metric. The method, called range-separated GDF (RSGDF), scales sublinearly to linearly with the number of k-points for small to medium-sized k-point meshes commonly used in periodic calculations with electron correlation. Numerical results show significant speedups with little precision loss compared to previously developed GDF.

Interpretation of multiple solutions in fully iterative GF2 and GW schemes using local analysis of two-particle density matrices

Pavel Pokhilko et al.

Summary: Iterative Green's function methods can lead to multiple solutions for simple molecular systems due to non-linear equations, while a detailed analysis of these molecular solutions has not been conducted before. This study utilizes two-particle density matrices to investigate the charge resonance and covalent characters of these solutions, providing necessary information for effective magnetic Hamiltonian construction. The obtained Hamiltonian parameterizations are compared to previous wave-function calculations using GW and GF2 calculations for simple molecules and transition metal complexes.

Low-Order Scaling Quasiparticle Self-Consistent GW for Molecules

Arno Forster et al.

Summary: An all-electron implementation of quasiparticle self-consistent GW for molecular systems is presented, achieving fast and stable convergence with good agreement compared to other codes. The computational efficiency of the new implementation is demonstrated by calculating the quasiparticle spectrum of a DNA oligomer with 1,220 electrons using a basis of 6,300 atomic orbitals. The study shows the dependence of quasiparticle energies of DNA oligomers on the oligomer size and the stabilizing effects of the DNA environment and aqueous environment on ionization potentials and electron affinities.

Testing the Green's function coupled cluster singles and doubles impurity solver on real materials within the framework of self-energy embedding theory

Chia-Nan Yeh et al.

Summary: The GFCCSD method provides satisfactory descriptions for weakly and moderately correlated impurities of large sizes, but instability in searching for particle numbers arises when dealing with strongly correlated impurities, especially with larger sizes and multiple degenerate orbitals with strong correlations. Verification from a GFCC solver with higher order excitations is necessary for fully checking the reliability of GFCCSD results.

Analytical continuation of matrix-valued functions: Caratheodory formalism

Jiani Fei et al.

Summary: Finite-temperature quantum field theories are formulated using Green's functions and self-energies on the Matsubara axis. In multiorbital systems, these quantities are related to positive semidefinite matrix-valued functions of the Caratheodory and Schur class, and analytic continuation is required to move off-diagonal elements to the real axis. Results show that for small systems with precise Matsubara data, the continuation can accurately recover all elements; while in real-materials systems, the precision of the continuation is sufficient for compatibility with the Dyson equation.
