Polygonal patterns of confined light

Evgeny Sedov et al.

Summary: Our technique combines the spin-orbit interaction and confinement of light to generate polygonal optical patterns in real space. The spin-orbit interaction from the splitting of TE and TM optical modes leads to oscillations in space of propagating polarized photons. These photons, confined in a harmonic potential, follow closed trajectories of a polygonal form.

Spontaneously coherent orbital coupling of counterrotating exciton polaritons in annular perovskite microcavities

Jun Wang et al.

Summary: Exciton-polariton condensation has been experimentally and theoretically demonstrated to form coherent superposition of exciton-polariton orbital states in halide perovskite semiconductor microcavities at room temperature by engineering artificial annular potential landscapes. The petal-shaped polariton condensates can be precisely controlled by tuning the annular potential geometry, and exhibit locked alternating pi phase shifts and vortex-antivortex superposition cores. This study opens up possibilities for topological polaritonic devices and optical polaritonic switches based on periodic annular potentials in geometrically patterned microcavities.

A versatile ring trap for quantum gases

Mathieu de Goer de Herve et al.

Summary: The study discusses the confinement of a Bose-Einstein condensate in an annular trap with adjustable parameters, achieved through a combination of magnetic, optical, and radio-frequency fields. Different radii annular traps are presented, with persistent flows prepared using a rotating laser stirrer and global quadrupole deformation. This setup is well-suited for investigating superfluid dynamics.

Dynamics of spin polarization in tilted polariton rings

S. Mukherjee et al.

Summary: The study focused on the effect of pseudomagnetic field on a polariton condensate in a ring-shaped microcavity, resulting in a stable four-leaf pattern. The pattern was found to originate from the interaction of cavity potential, energy relaxation, and TE-TM splitting. Comparisons with the dissipative one-dimensional spinor Gross-Pitaevskii equation with the TE-TM splitting energy showed good qualitative agreement.
