Modeling transmission windows in Titan's lower troposphere: Implications for infrared spectrometers aboard future aerial and surface missions

Paul Corlies et al.

Summary: The visibility of Titan's surface from orbit is limited due to absorption of methane gas, but wider spectral coverage can be obtained by decreasing absorbers between the observer and the surface at lower altitudes. This could lead to the identification of surface compounds like cyanoacetylene and urea, which would have significant implications for Titan science.

Global Impacts From High-Latitude Storms on Titan

Joseph Michael Battalio et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that Rossby waves on Titan can trigger polar convection, leading to stationary precipitation and global impact. Following the convection, forced waves undergo a complex evolution, including cross-equatorial propagation and tropical-extratropical interaction.

Global upper-atmospheric heating on Jupiter by the polar aurorae

J. O'Donoghue et al.

Summary: Jupiter's upper atmosphere is hotter than expected, with temperatures decreasing steadily from the auroral polar regions to the equator. High-resolution observations confirm that Jupiter's global upper atmosphere is predominantly heated by the redistribution of auroral energy.

Annular modes of variability in the atmospheres of Mars and Titan

J. Michael Battalio et al.

Summary: Annular (zonally symmetric) atmospheric modes, common on Earth, have been found on Mars and Titan, impacting dust activity and cloud outbursts. These modes, captured by data assimilation datasets for Mars and a general circulation model for Titan, show significant variability in the atmospheres of these worlds, potentially extending to exoplanets.

Haze Seasonal Variations of Titan's Upper Atmosphere during the Cassini Mission

Benoit Seignovert et al.

Summary: This study presents a 13-year survey of haze UV extinction profiles in Titan's upper atmosphere, observing the evolution of the detached haze layer (DHL) at different latitudes. The DHL globally sunk and disappeared in 2012, re-emerging from the Northern hemisphere in late 2015. Variability of the DHL was observed in 2005, with slightly higher extinction on the dawn side and some local inhomogeneities during a 2009 polar flyby.
