A first glimpse at the shell structure beyond 54Ca: Spectroscopy of 55K, 55Ca, and 57Ca

T. Koiwai et al.

Summary: Experimental observations on different isotopes Ca-55, Ca-57 have revealed important phenomena in their states, which are consistent with theoretical calculations. The existence of a short-lived state in Ca-57 suggests a transition in the calcium isotopic chain from single-particle dominated states at N = 35 to collective excitations at N = 37.

Large enhancement of total reaction cross sections at the edge of the island of inversion in Ti, Cr, and Fe isotopes

W. Horiuchi et al.

Summary: In this study, a systematic analysis of nuclear deformation was conducted for neutron-rich Ti, Cr, and Fe isotopes to explore the nuclear structure in the island of inversion near N = 40. It was found that the occupation of highly elongated intruder orbits induced large quadrupole deformation and large hexadecapole deformation in the island of inversion. The study also proposed a method to determine the edge of the island of inversion by measuring the enhancement of the total reaction cross section at high incident energy and discussed the possibility of constraining the hexadecapole deformation using total reaction cross sections.

First spectroscopic study of( 51)Ar by the (p,2p) reaction

M. M. Juhasz et al.

Summary: The nuclear structure of Ar-51 was studied using gamma-ray spectroscopy and the invariant mass method, revealing two bound and six unbound states. The low cross sections of the two bound states were interpreted as a clear signature of significant subshell closures at neutron numbers 32 and 34 in argon isotopes. Additionally, it was found that unbound collective states coexist with individual-particle states in Ar-51 due to the presence of two valence holes.

Pairing Forces Govern Population of Doubly Magic 54Ca from Direct Reactions

F. Browne et al.

Summary: The study investigated direct proton-knockout reactions of Sc-55, populated states of Ca-54, calculated level energies and theoretical cross sections, and found that despite excited neutron configurations in the ground state of Sc-55, valence proton removals predominantly populated the ground state of Ca-54. This counterintuitive result is attributed to pairing effects leading to a dominance of the ground-state spectroscopic factor, which could be generally applicable to direct knockout reactions from odd-even to even-even nuclei.

Investigation of the ground-state spin inversion in the neutron-rich 47,49Cl isotopes

B. D. Linh et al.

Summary: The first gamma-ray study of Cl-47 and Cl-49 spectroscopy was conducted at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory, using 50 Ar projectiles at 217 MeV/nucleon. The study involved measuring prompt deexcitation gamma rays with the NaI(T1) array DALI2(+) and determining the spin assignment for the low-lying states of Cl-49 through the one-proton knockout reaction Ar-50(p, 2p) with the SAMURAI spectrometer. The deduced spin-parity J(pi) = 3/2(+) for the ground state of Cl-49 was compared to theoretical predictions.

First spectroscopic study of 63V at the N=40 island of inversion

M. M. Juhasz et al.

Summary: The low-lying level structure of V-63 was studied for the first time using inelastic proton scattering and proton knock-out reaction in inverse kinematics. Comparison with shell-model calculations confirmed two proposed excited states, and analysis of excitation cross sections placed V-63 in the island of inversion below Ni-68.
