High Chern number phase in topological insulator multilayer structures

Summary: The study observed high Chern number phases with Chern number C > 1 in topological insulator multilayer structures and proposed a band inversion mechanism for the high-C behavior. Systematic investigation of Chern number phase diagrams revealed possible multifold degenerate lowest bands near the Gamma point and suggested that the change in Chern number could be greater than 1. Additionally, alternative high-C phase realizations in different types of TI multilayer structures were explored, with implications discussed for experimental applications.
