Multiple Skyrmion Crystal Phases by Itinerant Frustration in Centrosymmetric Tetragonal Magnets

Satoru Hayami

Summary: Multiple skyrmion crystals with spiral modulations are observed in a centrosymmetric tetragonal crystal system, displaying peculiar magnetic textures and nontrivial transport properties. The emergence of multiple skyrmion crystals is attributed to itinerant frustration, where exchange interactions compete in momentum space.

Magnetic field-temperature phase diagrams for multiple-Q magnetic ordering: Exact steepest descent approach to long-range interacting spin systems

Yasuyuki Kato et al.

Summary: Multiple-Q magnetic orderings, characterized by the superposition of multiple spin density waves or spin spirals, have attracted significant attention due to their potential topological and emergent electromagnetic properties. However, elucidating the phase diagrams for these magnetic orderings has been challenging due to the lack of concise theoretical tools and appropriate microscopic models. In this study, we propose a theoretical framework based on effective spin models with long-range magnetic interactions mediated by conduction electrons. Our framework, which utilizes the steepest descent method and self-consistent equations, provides exact solutions and has advantages over existing methods. We demonstrate the versatility of our framework by studying models with triple- and hextuple-Q magnetic orderings and clarify the magnetic field-temperature phase diagrams. Our results show interesting reentrant phase transitions and the existence of topologically nontrivial stacked skyrmion crystals or hedgehog lattices. Overall, our framework provides a powerful tool for studying multiple-Q magnetic orderings and related quantum phenomena in real magnetic metals.

Summary: This study systematically analyzes the magnetic and topological properties of multiple-Q spin textures with phase degree of freedom in two and three dimensions. It establishes a generic framework to handle phase shifts in such textures. The results show that phase shifts and magnetization changes can lead to the formation of skyrmion lattices with different skyrmion numbers, impacting the topological aspects of the structures.

Helicity locking of a square skyrmion crystal in a centrosymmetric lattice system without vertical mirror symmetry

Satoru Hayami et al.

Summary: We theoretically investigate the stability of a square skyrmion crystal (SkX) in a centrosymmetric tetragonal lattice structure with the emphasis on the role of the magnetic anisotropy. Our study reveals that the presence of an off-diagonal spin component, due to the broken vertical mirror symmetry, leads to the formation of square SkXs with a definite helicity in an external magnetic field. The competition between the off-diagonal and diagonal anisotropic interactions determines the helicity of the square SkXs, and physical phenomena such as antisymmetric spin polarization and magnetoelectric effects are discussed. Additionally, the stability of SkXs with different helicities in a magnetic field rotation is examined.

Our results demonstrate that the interplay between the staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and the interlayer exchange interaction gives rise to multiple-Q states, including the skyrmion crystal with a quantized topological number. Additionally, our simulated annealing experiments reveal that the skyrmion forms triangular-shaped crystals with different helicities in each layer due to the presence of the staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction.

Essential model parameters for nonreciprocal magnons in multisublattice systems

Summary: We theoretically investigate the microscopic conditions for emergent nonreciprocal magnons and propose a unified understanding based on a microscopic model analysis. We find that the odd order of an effective antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction and/or the even order of an effective symmetric anisotropic interaction in the spin rotated frame can be a source of the antisymmetric dispersions. We present possible kinetic paths of magnons contributing to the antisymmetric dispersions in different systems and test the formula for both ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic orderings in the absence of spatial inversion symmetry.

Nanometric skyrmion lattice from anisotropic exchange interactions in a centrosymmetric host

Max Hirschberger et al.

Summary: Skyrmion formation in centrosymmetric magnets without Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions was predicted using numerical techniques, and a Hamiltonian with anisotropic exchange couplings, local ion anisotropy, and four-spin interactions was identified for this class of compounds. In the representative system Gd3Ru4Al12, anisotropic exchange drives a delicate balance between helical, skyrmion lattice (SkL), and transverse conical (cycloidal) orders. The model is constrained by the experimental collapse of the SkL with a small in-plane magnetic field, with the expectation that spins in the zero-field helical state can be easily rotated by a tilted magnetic field or applied current.

Skyrmion Qubits: A New Class of Quantum Logic Elements Based on Nanoscale Magnetization

Summary: Skyrmion qubits are a new class of building blocks for quantum logic elements based on nanoscale magnetization textures, enabling rich operation regimes with high anharmonicity by adjusting logical states through electric and magnetic fields. Two variants of skyrmion qubits are proposed based on their quantized state, along with appropriate microwave pulses for generating single-qubit gates and multiqubit schemes for scalable architectures.
