Self-Supervised Learning of Person-Specific Facial Dynamics for Automatic Personality Recognition

Siyang Song et al.

Summary: This article addresses two important issues in automatic personality analysis systems: the use of short video segments or single frames for inferring personality traits, and the lack of methods for encoding person-specific facial dynamics. To tackle these issues, the paper proposes a novel Rank Loss for self-supervised learning of facial dynamics and a method to represent person-specific dynamics. The approach achieves promising results in personality estimation and shows the importance of the tasks performed by the subject in the video and the use of multi-scale dynamics.

Spectral Representation of Behaviour Primitives for Depression Analysis

Siyang Song et al.

Summary: This article discusses the research on video-based automatic depression analysis system. It proposes the extraction of multi-scale video-level features and spectral representations, along with the use of Convolution Neural Networks and Artificial Neural Networks for depression analysis. The experiments show the significant impact of interview tasks on depression analysis, the higher accuracy achieved through fusion of multiple tasks, and the greater informativeness of longer tasks.

Modeling, Recognizing, and Explaining Apparent Personality From Videos

Hugo Jair Escalante et al.

Summary: Explainability and interpretability are essential aspects of decision support systems, and researchers are starting to explore their importance. This paper introduces the concept of explainability and interpretability within the context of apparent personality recognition. The authors describe a challenge they organized on explainability in first impressions analysis from video, analyzing the dataset, evaluation protocol, proposed solutions, and summarizing the results. The issue of bias is also investigated, and the study outlines future research opportunities in this area.

Affective Processes: stochastic modelling of temporal context for emotion and facial expression recognition

Enrique Sanchez et al.

Summary: Temporal context is crucial for the recognition of expressions of emotion. A method based on Neural Processes framework is proposed, with key new components of probabilistic contextual representation, temporal context modeling, and smart temporal context selection, achieving consistent improvement over strong baselines and state-of-the-art methods on four databases for emotion recognition.

Estimation of continuous valence and arousal levels from faces in naturalistic conditions

Antoine Toisoul et al.

Summary: Facial affect analysis aims to enable computers to better understand a person's emotional state through a novel deep neural network architecture. While estimating valence and arousal from a face is natural for humans, it is challenging for computer-based systems. Attention must be paid to potential ethical issues when using this tool.
