Alginate nanoparticles as ocular drug delivery carriers

Sogol Kianersi et al.

Summary: The eye is the most susceptible organ of the body, requiring a special drug delivery system to improve drug bioavailability and reduce dosing frequency. By preparing alginate nanoparticles and conducting coating modification, sustained drug release, increased drug adhesion to ocular tissue, and decreased need for duplicate treatment can be achieved.

Recent Developments in Ion-Sensitive Systems for Pharmaceutical Applications

Michal Rudko et al.

Summary: Stimuli-responsive carriers of pharmaceutical agents have been extensively studied for targeted drug delivery. The response of medical devices to changes in the ionic environment plays a crucial role in inducing advantageous carrier responses. Various structures such as polymeric matrices, lipid carriers, nucleoside constructs, and metal-organic frameworks have been explored to design ion-responsive drug delivery systems, aiming at achieving localized drug release, mucoadhesive properties, prolonged residence time, and diagnostic signal emission. The development of ion-sensitive drug delivery systems has led to the marketing of responsive topical formulations, with ongoing research focusing on more selective and complex systems for different administration routes. The potential therapeutic efficacy and safety benefits associated with the use of multi-responsive systems will drive further research and practical solutions.
